I love that you cater to the beginners too, I struggled with this for a little bit when I first started making cups- I’ll admit sometimes I still struggle and I just mix up however much I think I need then throw the leftovers in a mold or something lol I know DIY epoxy says you can use fast set for the final coat but in my opinion I don’t like it as a final coat it’s not as smooth and shiny as I would like it for the final coat!!

Thank you so much for this video. I tried 2 types of epoxy on my glitter tumbler. It was the first time trying epoxy tumbler. Both were crap, it was all bumpy, did not look good, I started over 4 times and I was starting to think that I was the problem or my glitter were. I have seen your video and decided to try alumilite. It saved my last mug. I was on the 2nd coat and it was looking like shit. 3rd coat, alumilite, SAVED. It looks amazing. I am now watching all your tutorials. My project is a ''baby it's cold outside'' with snowflakes peekaboo. I am now confident it's going to look good. You are really the best teacher. Thanks again.

Jessica thank you for this and all your videos. I can't wait for each video to come out. I have a couple of questions: 1) I have been having problems lately with getting all the bubbles out of the epoxy even with the torch. Is there something I'm doing wrong or forgetting? Any suggestions would be helpful. 2) Another issue I'm having is the epoxy looks smooths but when you run your hand around the cup I can feel slight ridges? Can you help me understand why? 3) Can epoxy get old? Thank you again for all you share with us.
@FlynnSistersBoutique
@FlynnSistersBoutique 3 жыл бұрын
1 - what is your work space temp? are you warming your epoxy before application? what kind of torch are you using? do you have a lot of bubbles after you mix in the cup before application? 2 - at what point are you still feeling "ridges"? which layer? Are you sanding? 3 - yes epoxy can get old
@teresamasek104
@teresamasek104 3 жыл бұрын
@@FlynnSistersBoutique Hello Jessica, thank you for your reply. So I keep my room around 75 degrees, I don't warm the epoxy but its usually between 85 and 92 before I starting applying it. I use a kitchen torch. Sometimes I may have a lot of bubbles, but there are times when I will not have any bubbles but still end up with some during application. I feel the ridges after all applications, I sand some but seems like it's never enough to get the ridges out. I've had my epoxy about 11 months, is that old? Could that be my problem? Again thank you so much for your help and your videos. You're awesome.

Lately having trouble with it getting a crack look in my final coat and after 3 or 4 days or even longer when I wash them the go dull and loose their shine. Have you used this before? Is it me or the resin? How long before I can wash them?

No, I’ve never used that but this sounds like bad quality epoxy. Stick to more well known brands and I would recommend not purchasing them from Amazon. Mr Nola’s Glitter glass coat epoxy, Alumilite, ccdiy, diy epoxy all reputable brands.

Hey to my favorite tumbler maker! I watched your video as my kids were being super loud but I don't think you touched on this subject on a regular (non glitter) tumbler. I'm working on a tumbler for a customer. It's just a flat black photo tumbler. I did 1 med coat for the first coat, sanded lightly after drying & then I did a pretty thick coat for the second coat. I was expecting to need to do more coats (as I always wind up needing for one reason or another) BUT, this tumbler looks perfect right now after 2 generous coats of epoxy. It's smooth & everything is covered well. So my question is... is another coat necessary if I've already achieved the final look??? I don't want to let it go if it really needs another coat for some reason but I don't want to epoxy again if it's not really necessary. What do you think? As always... love your work, love your videos, love YOU!!! You're amazing & such an inspiration. Btw, your hair looked SUPER CUTE (half up & curled) in the beginning of the video with the first coat of epoxy on that tumbler. ♥️
@FlynnSistersBoutique
@FlynnSistersBoutique 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. In my experience, non glitter cups need more epoxy because the rim and bottom can chip or rub away if there's not enough. That being said, i dont work with thick layers of epoxy. I always do multiple thin layers.
@bamagirl234u
@bamagirl234u 2 жыл бұрын
Is there a reason you only work with thin layers? Is that just easier for you or is there a quality issue there? Thicker layers seem to be easier for me but if that's a quality issue then I need to stop doing that. Lol. Still learning the dos & donts but I aim for high quality & durability, so if that's a quality issue I definitely need to know that. Would you recommend doing more layers on this one? It's a 30oz. I used 20ml the first layer & 40ml the second layer (which I had mixed for 2 tumblers but I waited longer than normal to start putting it on the tumbler so it was getting thick & kind of hard to smooth out so I used more epoxy than I planned on using. I thought it was going to be a disaster but after smoothing it out as much as possible & then hitting it with a torch it actually turned out PERFECT looking. (I was shocked! Lol). Do you think thick coats will cause a problem down the road for this tumbler? It dried very nicely. Sorry, so many questions. Lol.

When you apply chunky glitter, epoxy method works best to help it lay flat. Then before the first layer of epoxy, give it a good coat of clear spray. That helps keep the epoxy from seeping under the glitter giving you a smoother finish. If it is still very bumpy and you sand, you will sand the color off the glitter.
