Thank you Mikey, I am the seller of the "Think Green" Waste Ink Kit. I tried to design it so it is simple to install. You made a great Video on installing my tank. because Epson did not make a Reset for Mac, (Their service Centers use Windows PC's) if you either use a PC emulator to run program, or connect to a PC laptop to save that other printer.

Good video, hadn't seen many people with videos about installing a waste tank to bypass the sponges on an Epson, namely the 1430 (one of my favorites, I have six modded). I personally use Gatorade bottles as you can tap one lid and just swap the bottles out when full because using a nice tank is a waste because good luck cleaning it out.. just toss it. And I also route the tube through the front facing holes, so no need to actually modify the printer itself.. just unplug the tube, adaptive to an extension and put it into a bottle. Also, I've used several of mine past their life counters/sensors.. by resetting them using a German made software (it cost $10 for a license key but it revises an otherwise giant paper weight, saves money, and less e-waste to the landfill). Best!

FYI you can use an empty plastic juice or soda bottle with a hole drilled through the cap, although the "Think Green" waste ink kit looks more professional if that's important to you

What about changing the felt pads? I assume this bypasses whatever felt pads are in the bottom but what about the pad on the top left? I think my pad on the top left is constantly causing black ink to get all over my heads? I don't know. Every time I use the printer I have to take a paper towel and spray with window cleaner and slide the ink cartridges over it to remove black ink from the bottom or it will mix in with my other colors.

Great idea, always wondered if you could reuse the ink. The fact the printer has a giant ink tampon inside it surprised me, what a bad idea that is, Epson making reasons to service it.😎❤️👍

Hi Mikey, Thanks for the installation demo. Very helpful! I happened upon your video while looking for a "fix" for my 1430. I am getting a "service required" box come up saying that my Epson has worn-out ink pad. While under lockdown here in Ontario, Canada there isn't anywhere open to take it to be repaired. Is this something I can fix myself and if so what do I need to buy to replace it? I'm assuming it's not the print head but something different? Thank you in advance as new Epson 1430's if I can even find one isn't very cheap to purchase here in Canada.

There's actually a lot more options for this then there used to be. But for me, I just use WIC Reset Utility and it's worked for me.. but it does cost $9.99 for an activation key to reset your printer, but I find it's quite worth it. One of my printers had reached the end of it's service life about 4 times now, and I've just reset the counter. I would highly recommend installing a waste collection unit as soon as you purchase a printer (not to mention a CISS). It's save you tons of money and headache. Best!

Is true if the printer show me the error code again I CANT use the activation key again? I love your video will be very helpfully... What kind of ink brand do you recommend to install the CISS? The artisan is discotiniud and I can't find any other printer same or better like that one... Any idea? Thanks ins advance!

​@@alohatcs This will be wordy, but I'll try to address all your questions. 1) No. I've reset one of my printers four times without issues, but I did bypass the waste collection off the bat, but you should be fine. You will need to purchase another reset key for it to work though, the old one won't as far as I know. Also, there are free methods, but they didn't work for me and I'm fine with paying $10. 2) I couldn't tell you the brand of ink or CISS (but I prefer ones with black casing and nice aesthetics), it's just stuff I ordered from Aliexpress that specifically says for Epson printers, sometimes you can also just buy them as a bundle with the CISS for a good price on eBay. I've tried many throughout the years and haven't really had much of an issue (also, not my video but I'm not sure that's what you meant). 3) And as for an alternative to the 1430, I really don't see anything "available" except for possibly the "Expression Photo HD XP-15000" (smaller but the XP-970 "might" also work) but they also seem hard to find and I explicitly buy referb's direct for EPSON (tried referb from Best Buy once due to availability and will never do that again). A refurbished model from EPSON in my experience is just as good and costs ~$100 less and sometimes a manufacturers discount can bring them down further (and I sell the inks on eBay, basically paying pretty much nothing if availability and discounts line up). For my office, I use Epson WorkForce WF-7620 (or latest 7X20 model, because the 2 designated two trays). I digress, but if you want to risk it Amazon has a used one for $169.00 (disclaimer, not sure man, completely up to you). One last thing I should mention, is I just found this video by happenstance wondering what other people do different from how I do it... I don't buy some fancy thing, I just use a piece of extension tubing to a Gatorade bottle, and just toss it when full (water bottles are too weak to me and old bottles cost nothing, and I found early on "nice" containers are useless as you don't want to clean out ink). I re-use the lid that just has a hole in it for the tube (cut at an angle at the end to go in tight) and no modification was needed as I just use one of the holes on the front after removing the pop off cover. Then I just use industrial Velcro to hold it on the front of the printer. P.S. And if you can get ahold of one, a 1400 also works and uses the same CISS as the 1430. In a nutshell, you're looking for a printer with 6 or 8 colors. Artisans are particularly great printers, wide format preferred, and as basic photo printer as you can find (could work with an all-in-one, but you're asking issues). It comes with a syringe and a tube to pull it out and to add it back to your tanks. You have to be sure to mix the ink with fresh ink. I believe it's 1:3 reused ink to new ink.

The waste tank came with a resetter. Not sure about for your model. Some of them already come with a physical tank in which you would get a chip resetter for your model.

If you use a Hand Sanitizer like Purcell on your tubes. The sanitizer will help the tube slide on and the alcohol in the sanitizer will dry and you should not have any issues.

Why is the waste ink black? Wouldn’t the head clean involve all the colours emitting ink? Maybe they all mix together and that forms black?

I bought the epson p400 and went with refillable ink cartridges and only use black ink. if i ever get this printing dialed in, ill be wasting less ink and transparencies. lol
