Have to agree, this projector is a beast. Just purchased it, have been trying to fault to see if I needed to move to a JVC nx5 or nx7, but seriously there is no reason. The 4k it produces is sharp and the lens zoom goes a little further at 2.1. Add to this the low lag for gaming and this projector is a beast! This guy is going to eat the competition. It might not be as good as a nx5, but it doesn't need to when it's half the price and gets you 90% there! Seems like 4k projector are finally starting to become mainstream, no longer a need to pay 15k for a good one!

ive been with projectors for past 2 decades and have at least tried most popular ones at the time. But after seeing my friends 5030ub(1080p) i was floored by the colors but especially the inky blacks it produced! My at that time Acer V7500(4k dlp shifter) was noticably greyer and even though my 4k picture was much sharper(vs his 1080p) i found myself liking his more. The same evening i found out that Epson has 5040ub in the same UB line and its a 4k - i was sold. As soon as new 5050ub dropped i snagged it as well for another room and it was an excellent upgrade!. Was very excited when Epson dropped a supposed replacement last year, but after testing both Epsons new 11k and 12k ive decided to stay with my 5040 and 5050 since new Epsons have lost quite a few features for my liking (biggest would have to say 3D) and i would call this new generation more of the sidegrade if not downgrade

@Krommer10005 жыл бұрын
I actually bought the 5050 and returned it. Not that the picture quality was bad, because it wasn't, it was the dam lens shift that drove me INSANE. I guess it's good that they put a remote / motorized way for you to move the lens, and the memory function for it "should" make it so you only have to set the lens for each input once. However, that's where the problem came in for me. It didn't, and EVERY time, and I mean EVERY time I would switch inputs, the lens would "try" to set itself to the memory setting I had, and get it wrong EVERY TIME. So what that boils down to is, every single time I would switch inputs, I'd have to spend a minute or more re-adjusting the image, and I just began to hate it. So I went and got the Epson 3800 Pro, which just came out, and is the 4K Pixel Shifted (Same as the 5050) direct replacement to the 3700 I've had for a few years. It works exactly like the 3700, but is 4K capable. If you directly A/B'ed the 5050 and the 3800 right next to each other, would you be able to tell the difference? Maybe, but to me the 3800 looks just as good as the 5050 did, and I don't have to reset the lens every time I change inputs. Oh, I also wasn't crazy about how big and heavy the 5050 was. The 3800 is about half the size and weighs much less. That matters when you're having to hold it up while mounting it. Here's Projector Central's Review on the 3800, and it's pretty spot on. They love it as well. www.projectorcentral.com/Epson-Home-Cinema-3800-Projector-Review.htm

The best part of the 5050ub is the ability to watch 2.35.1 content on a native screen with out getting a external lens.
@georgepopescu13275 жыл бұрын
Not really, the fact that is projecting the black bars outside of the screen, does not make them disappear. You will still lose 33% of the vertical pixels and light output when watching 2: 35: 1 content, since projector's panel is 16:9. In order to get 2: 35: 1 image without an external lens, you will need to get a native 2: 35:1 projector. Those are very expensive projectors, they usually cost over 30k-40k.
@handsomejustin4 жыл бұрын
@@georgepopescu1327 You're wrong, re do your research about this on the Epson 5050 again. They've had this feature working since the 5040 projector from 4 years ago.
@TheMustachioedJames4 жыл бұрын
@@handsomejustin Lens position memory != Native anamorphic projection. The Epson does the former, which is a nice feature allowing you to fill a 2.35 screen from edge to edge and switch quickly to the lens position you need to do 16:9 on the same screen (with bars on the sides). But, as George points out, you're not using the full pixel array in the projector to do 2.35 via this method. For most, this is a fair trade, since the 2.35 image on 4k discs is not anamorphic as recorded on disc (most/all producers using the 4k bluray format for 2.35 simply disregard the extra pixels top and bottom), and the Epson is already plenty bright and plenty detailed for all but the largest screens. The Epson does have a feature that allows you to resample the 2.35 image on the disc (stretch it taller) to fill the Epson's 16:9 array, then you can squish it back down via an external anamorphic lens to project onto a 2.35 screen. This, combined with the Epson's lens position memory, is a good option for some folks, and may come out cheaper than a projector with a native 2.35 panel. Still, this is not a native 2.35 projection. You have the potential to perhaps gain in detail since the disc itself has more recorded pixels than the projector's native panel and this method uses all the pixels available in the panel to render the final image, but you also lose some detail resampling for the stretch. You gain in light output overall by using the full panel, but you also lose some light output via this method due to the anamorphic lens reflecting some light back into the projector. Two steps forward, one step back on the light output and (possibly)detail, and it requires an external lens. The other caveat to this is, a lens of the quality you want to do 4k anamorphic from a native 16:9 projector costs about $6k, unless you use one of the older lens systems not really designed to pass the detail available in a 4k format, find a deal on b-stock, eBay, etc, or use a cut-rate lens type that introduces its own set of problems. George isn't wrong, he's just not typing as much about it and the possible work-arounds available on the Epson as I am. None of those workarounds are native 4k 2.35 projection, which isn't a feature of the Epson.
@georgepopescu13274 жыл бұрын
@@scotttild you don't get it do you? that lens is stretching the image so you will have all the pixels of yout display and all the light output of the bulb on the screen, otherwise you will lose around 33% of both light and resolution. For 3D and HDR this is a big deal actualy couse 33% of light output is huge.

Please allow me to clarify what is often misrepresented... the difference between sharpness and detail. The 5050ub is optically sharper than many of the XPR DLP projectors because it has a higher quality lens (it's current rival in that area when it comes to XPR DLP is the BenQ 5550). The XPR DLP's can have more detail in their image due to higher pixel count (8.3 vs. 4.15 million) but this does not make them 'sharper', that comes down to the optics (lens). The 5050ub may require some panel alignment in order to see it reach it's full potential and this will vary from unit to unit, XPR DLP is superior in this regard as it is a single panel (DMD) projection technology (vs. three panel LCD). As an example the unit that is mentioned in this overview (BenQ HT3550) actually has an inferior lens versus the 5050ub, it suffers from a good amount of CA and is not as 'sharp' as many other XPR DLP projectors (the Optoma units are generally sharper).

The other major positive was lamp price, the Sony is $750 and the Epson is $140. This is all in Australian dollars. We also looked at the JVC laser 4K which is priced the same as the Epson, my partner saw the rainbow effect on the JVC and the picture quality was not as good either. If I connect my xbox series x to this directly, how do I get audio to my receiver? no spdif or audio out? I want to avoid getting a 4k receiver and put 4k xbox straight to the projector

Hey Chris, super job as always. What are your thoughts on the 6050ub, the same as the 5050? Also how about the new Epson ls12000. Any thoughts here. I just purchased the 6050 but I am thinking about returning it and going after the LS. I’d love to hear your thoughts and screen recommendations. My room is 20X21 10 ft ceilings, 2 window s with power black out screens,as well as 6 sconces and can lights? Let me know , I love your channel, keep it up. Edward

Which Projector in the 500$ price segment can you recommend? I would buy it used. Was looking at the Optoma HD27, Benq W1070/1090 or Benq TH683. Can please someone help

Hello dude! Love your reviews. I was wondering if you can advise which will be the best option. An optoma uhd38 (which is the best available in Amazon) or an xgimi horizon pro. I have a budget of about $1400. I'd like a short through, not ultra short. And the better 4k image quality. Thanks dude!

I bought this projector a few months ago and about to set it up in my basement, I do have a question which I can't seem to find an answer for. Does the lens shift affect the image (whether in focus, shape or brightness), I wouldn't lens shift a lot but let's say up to 50% horizontal? Also it'll be installed in a light controlled basement, but wouldn't always watch it in the dark necessarily, any ideas what screen color or type I should get? Looking for 120" Thank you in advance.

Hello guys. Ok I am planning to buy the lg C9 oled. But I rather want to try out a projector. Any suggestion? Movies, game, series that my priority. Also any good screen to invest?

Glad I caught this comment as I have both LG B7 OLED 65" & EPSON 6050. Hands down, if you have the means to purchase the screen and audio to go with the projector, get the EPSON. Yes it isn't quite as sharp as an OLED TV but the experience for gaming, cinematic movies are unmatched. It's kinda sad we have such a nice TV that's used for cable. Sometimes my wife has to yell at me to come out of the basement cuz I'd be gaming 16 hours a day down there on the Epson if it were up to me. I use the 135" silver screen ticket.
