Originally I bought a p900 for fine art printing. It had issues straight away, the thing was clipping the edge of the paper on the way out, so this meant ruining very expensive paper almost every time. I could see pizza wheel marks on most of the images I produced, it was very prone to scratches no matter how careful you try to be and the build quality felt very cheap. Trying to contact customer service and get issues sorted was a nightmare 'at least it was here in NZ'. I ended up ditching it for the older Canon Pro 1000 and couldn't be happier. The thing is a tank, it makes the p900 seem like a plasticky cheap toy. I love t he air fed system, Ive had no feed issues and prints look amazing. Super glad I switched machines. That's just my experience.

I have owned a p900 since not long after its release and I can assure you clogs are a thing of the past with this printer. I have let it set for as long as six weeks recently and it printed as if there was no gap in the regular printing schedule. I hope everyone else has the same experience and I really like the p900. Thank you for the review.

GREAT comparison!! I have the P900 and really don't use it as much as I wanted to even though the output is fantastic. Thank God though for Qimage Ultimate (pointed out by Jose) which I use to keep my printer ready at all times. I have it set to print a half-page unclog pattern daily. I also have it alternate between Matte black on one day and Gloss Black the next. It's kept my printer ready to go after months of no usage and it appears to use very very little ink. I just keep a stack of plain letter-sized paper in the rear feed and Qimage minimized to my System Tray. Perfect solution, IMO. Love Qimage!! Thanks Jose!!

Wonderful review! I do have the P900 and love it and still have a P800 (converted to chipless using Piezography Pro). Used to have 4800's and the (much) older 1400 & 1288 (if I remeber the numbers correctly). Just to clarify, the P700 has the roll feed adapter built in, so no adapter is available.

Hey! Love all the info coming from your channel! Question, you said you have not updated firmware on the canon 1000, is there a reason you are avoiding it? Thinking about picking one up and getting the sensor kit, so making sure firmware doesn’t disable the use of the sensor kit. Thanks!

Hi, could you please do a video of how to remove and transfer the cli 65 chips for the pixma pro 200? And how to attach it to the new empty tank? There's only 1 video of that here on KZbin but it's not as detailed and not complete as I'd hoped it would be.

I have used Epsons for over 30 years. I love the brilliant output. 2 years ago my last Epson gave up the ghost. I was tired of the constant nozzle clogs in the Epsons so I bought a Canon POR10 for varies reasons one being how easy you can use third party inks and the printhead can easily be replaced. I used this dream machine for nearly 2 years without even one nozzle clog. BUT it got a nozzle clog that would not clear. NO I DID NOT BUY A REPLACEMENT PRINTHEAD when I bought the Pro10. SOO STUPID! But it was under a ASURION warranty. So got most of my money back. BUT in the mean time I did a lot of youtube on the Epson ET8550 and bought one. Still kicking the tires. I would buy a new replacement printhead for it but its so new they aren't available yet. I really hope Epson has fixed the endless clogs. My PRO10 was a pigment ink system and the Epson is a DYE based machine. I hope the Epson does well with such things as printable Vinyl and other of substrates other than paper. I think EPSON finally figured out that they were loosing tons of scratch becasue of the popularity of 3rd party inks and a changeable Waste Ink PAD/BOTTLE ie the ET8550. Its still blows my mind he ET8550 uses only 5 ink colors. The only thing I can see as an issue is that the ET8550 seems to bleed a little when printing on PLAIN PAPER

Hi Jose. Great video. You have told me a a couple times, on your livestream, that my Epson Stylus Photo R1800 is old...but it keeps on going. Well...after adding an external waste ink tank. The printhead on my R1800 holds 8 ink cartridges and the specifications for the printer state it has 1440 nozzles or 180 x 8. Does that mean that my photo black and matte black do not share nozzles? Why would Epson move away from this design in later models?

Hi Jose, at 8m30 please note the P700 comes with the roll adapter already built-in (not an add-on), whereas the P900 has a separate roll adapter as you mention.

That I did not know. Too bad there aren't too many 13" roll options. My P800 is running on a Chip Decoder Board and refillable carts and has the add on roll adapter. Awesome combo

Thanks for the review and insight 👍 I had the Epson Pro 300 and it finally gave up on me so I was looking into getting a new printer I had came across your review on the p900 and also the Canon Pro 1000 I chose the Epson due to the fact that I didn't have to do an automatic cleaning cycle I'm loving the results that I'm getting but my shadows in my prints are a little bit too dark so I'm going to get a new calibrator soon to calibrate my monitor. Keep up the great work

Anybody ever put some 3/8 in clear silicone plugs 1/2 in up from the bottom of the ink cart so you can see the ink and know when its low ??

You keep saying the P800 is virtually the same as the P900, and thus your experiences with the P800 can easily be applied to describe the P900. That is not true. The P900 is not an incremental improvement over the P800, it's a major redesign. And as I'm living in Europe, I can also use refill ink with the Epson. For Europeans, I think that with the P700/P900 Epson is now significantly ahead of the Canon printers.

It's easy to drool over the Epson P900. However, I calculated the cost of ink per mL to be about 3.5X of dye ink for the ET-8550. Said differently, ink for the ET-8550 is about 30% of the P900. Jose, you mentioned that about 1/2 a cartridge of ink to initially load the P900. Do you have a feel for an ink use comparison between the P900 and 8550? This might be an important factor if running a business?

With these printers I am discussing, they are all very good as far as clogs due to neglect. But i still recommend you print at least a couple times a week on any printer.
