I am firmly convinced that for amateurs who don’t print in large volumes regularly, the ET8550 is the better choice. For many years, I owned an Epson A2 printer, the Pro 3800, which delivered excellent results. However, the ink consumption during occasional use was ruinously high, as the printer used massive amounts of ink for cleaning cycles and filled the maintenance tank. This could be mitigated by batching print jobs and printing large quantities in one session. With the ET8550, this cost factor is a thing of the past because the ink is so affordable that you no longer need to worry about it. The differences in quality are only noticeable in direct comparison and are insignificant for the average viewer-or even more so for uncritical observers.

I’m new to the Pro 1000. I read somewhere that if you leave the printer on it will not waste as much ink in cleaning. I set mine to stay on (no power save) right now I’m printing once a week with no complaints.

I've read on a thread, that canon's prp 1000 owners, who seems to know what they are talking about, recomend to replace only one cartridge when it's empty (red cross) without replacing cartridge with yellow dot, because they say, cartridge replacement is very low ink consumming, is that right? thanks ;)

Just found this video. I’ve been printing in 140lb watercolor postcard paper. Haven’t gotten the ICC right but overall it’s very cool. Question: Canon says pro-1000 can’t print over 107lb stock. Are there any longterm effects printing on this thicker stock?

How low do the cartridges look on the computer when they're ready to be refilled? 50%? Would like to keep the liquid side healthy as you said. How often do you run the Qimage preclog print scheduler on your Pro-100? Thanks for your advice

Thanks so much for your videos, Jose. Super helpful. I understand that an empty cartridge needs to be re-set. But, once I'm into changing all the cartridges when one is empty, do I need to set the others, too, even if they're still half full? Thanks.

Thanks, I'm the new owner of a Canon Pro-300 so this comes in handy. Several years ago I owned an Epson R2400, I absolutely hated that printer to the point where I switched to Dye Sub. This is my second time around with Ink-Jet printers, wish me luck !

Jose, I have just purchased an ET-8550 and run on a MAC. I see from many of your videos that you use Qimage Ultimate. I left Adobe products a number of years ago and presently use Capture One, On1 Photo Raw and the NIK Collection for all of my photo editing. I see that Qimage functions as a Plug-In to Adobe products but can find no information on utilizing it along side my choices of Photo editing software. Can it be utilized Stand-Alone ...eg can an image/images be dragged and dropped onto it...or can an image file merely be opened within it ???

Never switch your printer off. Be they C or E. We had a few cases of planned maintenance in the local e-grid in the past weeks. Each time the E fires up, from having been taken off power, it squirts a bit of ink around inside (on the maintenance cartridge). Compared to C-brand's the PRO-1100 that is marginal. In the video, at 3:52, we see nozzle checks (totaling 0.12 ml) and lost jobs totaling 7.46 ml. Why the jibs got lost? Don't know but when the paper wasn't fed correctly the printer will not start. And so it probably was user error where the printing got terminated because of something. Forgot to open the paper output tray? The wrong paper type was selected? The wrong crop/magnification? The wrong color profile? And yes, 7.46 ml is already an amount of ml that makes you think of lost money. Not so the nozzle checks. The screen prints of a model SC 500 are about months April through December, except November. That's 8 months and if there were as many "lost jobs" each month then that can easily run up to the quoted lost ink. I have dedicated AC outlets in the house for IT devices that all come together at the mains central switch/fuse board. So I could insert a UPS at that point. And I have considered that, actually. With solar and home batteries lurking - waiting for the tech to become more mature and prices to come down - I will not buy into that, though. In short: with the screenshots, we don't know what the cause was, based on the screenshots.

I know this is not the forum for those discussions but my response to the "purists" is a quote attributed to Ansel Adams : "The negative is the equivalent of the composer's score, and the print is the performance.” This is even more true when we substitute "the negative" with "raw file". Thank you Jose. It's always good to stop by your channel. It's finally getting through to me that not turning the printer on every day or every other day is user error. I guess that is what happens when you try to keep something that is designed to dry from drying too soon.

As an analogy if your car only did 30 miles to the gallon but drove faultlessly and never broke down would that be preferable to if it did 40 miles to the gallon but spent every week in the workshop being maintained. Which car would you prefer to own? 😉😋

Someone told me that for the Canon Pro1000, if you turning it off by clicking the power button, the head will be sealed at the parking position, and the ink won't be dried up for a long time - at least a couple of months. Do you think that is true?

I use this program on my P900 and it does not include the note at the bottom " The total ink includes ink used for printer maintenance". Nor does it include the summary information for total ink and media used on the printer as does the screen shot he has posted. The period he selects -Dec 2024- certainly shows a lot of ink used. The SC-F500 has three cleaning methods - Print head cleaning, Powerful Cleaning and Power Flushing and seems to do a head clean every time you turn it on. The manual warns you to have at least 30% of ink in the tank for Powerful Cleaning so clearly it uses a lot of ink to do this. Its seem the nozzles were clogged after 2 months of non use and needed a Powerful Cleaning ( he called it a Level 2) to fix it. I now see why it does not have the "total ink amount including maintenance" when I use the program with my P900. The progam says " Actual costs or ink consumption may vary considerably depending on conditions of printer use, the printing environment and other factors, including but not limited to the operation and variability among printer models. Cost or ink consumption estimates do not account for ink used over the life of the cartridge for printer maintenance (unless specifically indicated in the tool) or for ink remaining in the cartridge after the replacement cartridge signal appears." Clearly the SC-F500 counts the maintenance ink. However at the big picture level, if you look at the top you see he has printed 278 square meters of media and used 2,141ml of ink. That is an average of 7.7ml per square meter of media. That seems a pretty good figure to me as the ink figure includes maintenance ink. I just printed a photo on an A2 (0.25 square meter) Baryta Epson paper and it used 5.54ml of ink at a cost of NZ$7.75 for the ink. The major point I take from this "as you have stressed many times". Print often !!!! These printers want to print!!!!. Use your ink to print images not to clean

Glad you're taking a look at that printer. I've been using one of these for a couple of years now. Indeed, the worst thing about it is the much too simple (Windows) driver - icc profile thing... letting the printer control the process, lead to good results (according to friends and relatives) but I felt it wasn't optimal... The driver limits you to only a few Canon papers but still, no perfect results, even with those canon papers... So, luckily, B&H got the Spyder Studio kit on sale shortly after I bought the G620. Using the Spyder Print, I created profiles for all the papers I am using (including those not supported by default by this printer) and then got really good results! So in my opinion, this is a very good priter for the price and operation cost, but Canon did a very bad job with the driver. If you can't get or create proper ICC profiles, it will still make good prints but you won't get the best results unless you can use proper icc profiles...

Should I be using ICC profiles provided by Precision Colors for the Canon Pro-10 or should I use the stock Canon Pro-10 ICC profiles or the Auto settings for Color/Intensity? Precision Colors offeres multiple ICC profiles for each type of Canon paper. Can you tell me what the differences are? For example Canon Photo Paper Pro Platinum has the following .icm files: P10SE_CanonPhotoPaperProPlatinum_D50.icm P10SE_CanonPhotoPaperProPlatinum_D65.icm P10SE_CanonPhotoPaperProPlatinum_FL_CW.icm P10SE_CanonPhotoPaperProPlatinum_FL_DL.icm P10SE_CanonPhotoPaperProPlatinum_Tung.icm Each different paper has the same file endings after the paper name but I don't know what the differences are. Thanks!

I saw that video!!! I wondered the same thing myself! I want my prints to match what I see on my screen and this one made me scratch my head, how could he get 2 different image qualities with the same monitor??? I need a printer and I'm so on the fence on which one of these (Epson, Canon or any other) to print my artwork....it's exhausting! Here in the beginning of my art business I may only print 1/2 doz-doz prints per month, that maintenance cartridge sucking up my ink could break me!!! If I were to print a little 4x6 picture every day would that keep the 1100 from going into maintenance mode and also if I leave it on??? Would that use less ink than the maintenance mode if I print a little 4x6 picture daily?

I started with an Epson ET2720 tank printer that had been converted to sublimation and ASub paper. I used cheap aluminum blanks from Amazon to get started and get my settings right. Then, I ordered Chromaluxe blanks for high quality results. After getting used to sublimating, I upgraded to the Epson F170 printer, which is a dedicated sublimation printer. To be honest, I get the same excellent results from either printer, so buying the more expensive F170 wasn’t necessary. I use a custom profile on each printer.

Jose, Hello, I'm back unclogging the same R3000 that I commented about six years ago. Haven't used it in a year or more due to some medical issues. Now I'm following this same vid to get it running again as I love the prints it makes. The problem I'm having (I guess everyone has) is the unavailability of new Epson ink cartridges. Therefore, I'm trying to find a source of remanufactured cartridges or refillable kits so I can fill my own. Do you have any suggestions on where I might find a good source for these? Still loving your videos. Thank You.

I have let my Canon Pro-10 set idle for 2+ years with the original cartridges. I am afraid to use it, because the cartridges might be dried up. Can you advise me what I should do? Clean printhead? Install all new cartridges? Let the printer tell me what to do? I have all the replacements you had said to get and not yet replaced any OEM cartridges. I made about 10 prints when I bought it as a new old stock printer 2-3 years ago

I have a Canon pro 100 and the problem of significantly darker prints than the monitor shows. I found a couple of your videos where you addressed this problem and talked about light levels in the work area causing someone to make the monitor brighter than the print output. However, I have had this problem a number of times with this printer and it will start seemingly suddenly after several sessions of printing perfect representations of what I see on my monitor. At the same time, I can change contrast and brightness and other settings (including using only the software or only the printer or neither to control the print parameters) in my print choices (the Canon cntrl-p window) and the changes in settings will make zero difference in changing the dark prints.. as if the printer is suddenly ignoring the Canon software. I assume this cannot be a monitor problem. Perhaps the Canon software inputs are no longer reaching the printer?? Any help would be appreciated.
