I have noticed a slight difference in the output of two of my prints from both the 1000 and the 1100. The colors are a bit deeper in the dark areas. Of course, I could darken the image and send it to my pro 1000 and it looks identical. I am using the same pro 1000 driver for both. Red River doesn't have any production ready ICC profiles yet so I can only compare the ICC profiles from the 1000. However, I can't justify having two printers and I ended up donating my pro 1000 to a local community colleges evening photography program. They were very happy to receive it and I was careful transporting it and keeping it level so the ink didn't need to be refilled. I appreciate all the guidance you have given me. I'm sure with future updates. There will be slightly bigger differences, but I think in the long run, it's really not a worthwhile upgrade. A lot of the same issues are still there with the lack of a touchscreen, but the other advantages are still there in terms of the amazing image quality. It wasn't a downgrade by any means. But if I had a choice between keeping my 1000 and getting the 1100 and spending the extra money I would keep my 1000.

Great tip! Thanks Jose! Can the greyscale option on Canon printers (ip8720) do the same or similar since it does not have a black and white option in the driver? Or does that use other colours to produce the greyscale print although the printer has black (pigment and dye) and grey (dye) inks.?

I have the Epson R280 which is also a 6 color photo printer from the same era. Also using Precision Colors EV6 inks and getting superb results without using any custom profiles. Also using the WIC reset service. Most importantly, I learned all of this from your great videos. So thanks!!

I hope this can be seen after 10 years, Jose. The drilling a 1mm hole or pushing the cap off its nipples to gain 2 way valve functionality. With the hole drilling I fear tint pieces of plastic getting into the lines and eventually cloffing the print head. Pushing off the tab completely allows for ink to flow but during a power clean I had one cart I did this with emptying out to zero with ink in its holder too . I'm not sure why (Tab was completely off probably floating in mylar bag. So which is safer, drilling the 1 mm hole and taking a chance with plastic or knocking out the entire tab and hoping a power clean doesn't suck all of the ink out of a full OEM cart with OEM ink harvested. Thank you Jose , More than happy to pay for 1 on 1 advice but don't know how !

Hi Jose, I've recently run into issues with my Epson SC P800. I've owned it for 7 years and printed with it every several months. Cleaning the printhead cleared up the occasional ink drips on prints, until now. Last week it started dripping ink on my prints every 6th print or so. I've been using the Windex method, though before I found you I found a different creator that uses 2 parts Windex and 1 part rubbing alcohol. I'm concerned because my nozzle print tests got better, then got worse. Is this to be expected with a printer that (due to my ignorance) went without regular maintenance for 7 years? At what point to I call it quits and start shopping for a new one?

Hello Jose and all, Inspired by your videos as well as Keith Cooper's, I am now (since about three weeks) very happily printing my photo work on an 8550. I'm super grateful for it. Based on the findings Keith Cooper shares on his website, I started out with the 'standard' quality level, yet in unidirectional mode. I got great prints so indeed believed that 'high' would be unnecessary. Then I came to a (older so lower resolution) photo with very shallow depth of field. I got some annoying haloes around tiny flower details and for the life of me couldn't figure out why; on the edit monitor everything looked fine. Until a lightbulb moment where I tried the 'high'(est) quality setting. And hey presto.. I got fine out of focus transitions on the print exactly as they should be. So -- the difference can be significant after all. From then on, 'high' is my default and all prints are stunning. By the way, I love all things simple so I'm printing directly from Photoshop to the Epson driver with OEM semigloss paper and the OEM profile for that. OS is Windows 7 Pro. Hey Jose... love your weekly printer chats. I'm thinking about going up to A2 from my Canon Pro-10s A3+ .... but I am torn... Do I get the new Imagegraphpro 1100 or the Epson P900 ? Are there side by side comparisons of the images from each yet ? Would I be able to see a difference ? Do they print at the same speed ? I see some advantages to the p900 including a 4.3 inch touch sensitive screen and a roll paper holder. Downside is 10 inks not 12. The inks are about £0.55p per ml for Canon and £0.58p per ml for Epson. Canon carts are 80ml while Epsom carts are 50mI so you get more prints per set from Canon (or do you?). In the UK, both printers are the same price at around £1099 ... Please help me decide, thanks.

Not having any issues with clogging that I can tell. Does the Pro-1100 dump to the Maintenance Cartridge when you have to shut it down (I was getting a house generator installed and had to shut it down). Normally I keep it running 24/7 I have had my printer for a week and the Maintenance Cartridge is at a little less than 50%. I have been printing every day at the rate of 2-10 images a day

What if the standard image is not up to the new improved inks in pro-1100 ? Do we need a more challenging standard image to exploit the improved printer/inks , hence capturing the difference from Pro 1000?

I ruined my printer in less than a year by using cheap ink. I suggest using only genuine Canon ink cartridges. The cheap ink is tempting but print quality is bad and it will destroy your printer fast.

My Pro 9000 started printing weird images. They're blurry, lacking detail & the colors look faded. I did get a new (to me) computer & thought that was the problem. Have uninstalled, reinstalled, checked all settings, did nozzle checks, cleaning, deep cleaning & still no improvement. I wish there was a way to upload the print result side by side w/what the file looks like.

I do agree with everything you mention here, in that a properly calibrated system - front to back - should produce the most faithful representation of the image in print, with barely perceptible variations in color/contrast/saturation. Therefore the only area I could potentially see improvement in the 1100, as has been advertised, would be density and hue perceptibly in the black inks. Otherwise, there’s also been talk from others about “noticeable improvement in sharpness in 1100 prints”. . . Given the same print head is in both printers, I’m thinking that’s probably pre-coded into the firmware of the printer, if it is actually “sharper” when comparing the same prints from both printers. That can be compensated for in the 1000. Thus, I don’t see the 1100 as a compelling upgrade; the lack of a mount for roll paper/no cutter, and a wax additive to the ink, all tells me that Canon has likely reached the hardware “end of the line” in the 1000 series. I know I won’t be waiting another 5+ years in hopes they add those features, or a better system for reducing ink waste if not printing every 2-3 days. I’d just step up to the 2600 series and make my life easier.

You mentioned a way to automate printing tests while you are gone. I am away for a week for an upcoming trip and have a Canon Pro-1100. Is there a way to do that? I have looked through menus and cannot find a way to do it

One of my cartridges was shown as empty before i decided to refill it with the same ink and make the chipless printer mode, at first it wasn’t printing the color I refilled BUT it fixed by itself when i decided to pick in the settings “unclog the head” two times it unclogged and everything worked as usuall
