We're going to have one of these out on the floor next month. I can't wait! It's going make my job so much easier. I love using CMM manually, but this will lighten my workload tremendously!

George K, Yes the Equator Gage is a comparative instrument. A "Master" or "Golden" part must be used to create a Cal file which all other subsequent parts are rapidly compared to. Much like a dedicated Hard Gage, but with the Equator you will receive much more useful data and have the flexibility to reconfigure the gage with modular base plates and simply adding another program and Cal file.

So you need to have 1 good part in order to program the gage. If that's the case, that means you need to check that good part first on a CMM in order to see if it's good. Also, in order to plug in proper tolerance that 1st part needs to be machined pretty close to the nominals.

No you don't need a good part as long as you make cal files on a CMM. I make programs for these machines and even use one master for similar parts that are not the same but close enough to get the same point type features.
