I'm from Bosnia, I also have horses, I can say little more about them and some facts to Bosnian moutain horses are rarely used for equestrian purpouses like races or something, they are often used as draft horses beacuse of their powerful strenght. They are also famous beacuse of this, in region of livno there are hundreds maybe even thousands of wild horses roaming, mix of Bosnian moutain horses and other types. Also in rogatica (the town) there was a ranch/stables borike, there were pure bred Bosnian moutain horses, people then started buying pure bred arabians but couldn't do it beacuse of climate and terrain, so breeding with Bosnian moutain horses we got majestic fast and strong horses, fast and elegant as arabians yet strong and durable as Bosnian, they are also concider to be their own sort called "borički arap" or borik arabian horse. Sadly borike ranch got closed and horses were sold out, luckily one man from foča saved these majestic horses and keeps 20 of them I highly suggest to ride those horses, they are really beautiful!

​@@ninakaiser2930they are harder to find since most of them are now mixed with either local bosnian horses or with thoroughbreds and lipizzaners. The purebred borik arabian horses are still continuing with lineage like in Sarajevo and rogatica, with lineages and their names wich are adapted from foregin muslim countries like saudi arabia, names are mostly kuhaylan, saqlawi, muniqi, hamdani and sabih, with each son getting that name by lineage, while mares get from mothers and their names go by mira, borička, kadina, luna, zafir, layla ect. Today these horses are still exlusive to balkans, specifically Bosnia and place with most of original borik arabian horses like i said are found in foča by a man who saved over 20 when borike closed

​@@liesjelualockse6377its sad tough its left out beacuse equestrians back then turned to another balkan breed, lipizzaners, an croatian/Slovenian breed that is only white or gray, altough foals start off bay or black. They also turned for Bosnian and posavina horses in order to preserve the, since borik arabians werent then classified as sort of their own. Now they are indeed their own breed but are often left out beacuse there is a small population

It's a new breed to me. I know they are not ponies, but they remind me of Connemaras. Compact, sturdy, neat builds. And how perfect is is to meet them in the place where they originated. The landscapes were all so lovely.

This video was fascinating all around... horses, scenery and food. My impression of the Bosnian Mountain Horse is well put together fleet, baroque round sturdy horses with big manes and tails...coming in black or bay with pretty heads. Interesting about the hooves and I could have spent hours in the museum looking over it's history. Their movement appears easy to sit at trot too. What height? Loved it, thanks so much! 💞💞💞

Oh my gosh, this episode made me so excited! Slovenia is my mother´s home country. What a great breed! What especially stuck with me is that they are practically disease free. That´s so amazing in today´s age. I really hope the numbers go up and they won´t be endangered anymore. I have not heard of them before, but they look VERY similar to the Hungarian breed called Huzule. I was able to visit a breeder with a large herd of about a 100 several years ago. There are some very old breeds in this region.

I visited Yugoslavia like 45 years ago, but did'nt like their food. You tell it are bosnia horses but they come of other parts of the formerly country. 😊

A fantastic video. I looked at it a second time immediately! In minute 21:07 you can see the Bosnian horses going tölt in a slow tempo. You can see it not only at their feet, but also at their head movements. I am really thrilled about this fact, which makes this breed for me even more interesting! Does somebody know the height of the pony? Is there arab blood in these ponies? I read something like that in Wikipedia. I know that some Arabs have the tölt too.

Very interesting. Have you dealt with Greek Horses. During the 1970s my wife, who is Greek, and I drove across Greece. I was seeing a lot of a small grey horse that was born dark and became grey with age. I tried to get my wife to get information on them, but only got the reply "They are just horses."

I don't know her name, but I've heard about this research before. There was a woman at the University of Utrecht who dissected hundreds of horses and found that those ligaments that are mentioned in the video are absent in at least 90% of todays horses. I'm not sure if there're any videos about it.

@@picobello99 what i don't understand is how they had so many horses, because most owners of horses have them like family member, and they let them bury or cremate. And there are almost no horses who go to slaughter, because the law in the netherlands is very strickt. And you can't find so many diferent breeds. KWPN, friesian, PRE, haflinger, fjord, a few arabs and icelantics, a few lusitanien, tinker, apaloose,... But there are about 300 horsebreeds, so even with 10% you can't make a conclusión.🥰

@@picobello99 oh, i found it on google. They did'nt did research on horses in the netherlands, but Zeganja and Tanja de Bode brought 8 bosnian mounted horses from Slovenia to thr netherlands. The name of those ligaments is: Mugal ligament lamellea. And it was in the clinic in utrecht the did this research, and like they're working there they knew already that the most horsebreeds in the netherlands don't have them. But i think they should do this research on at least 50% from the +/- 300 horsebreeds. I found it in dutch, but i think you can find it i english, asking for this breed and the research of those ligaments in Utrech netherlands.
