They look so much sturdier and stronger boned as opposed to most 'modern' warmbloods. I grew up riding some old fashioned german warmbloods back in the day, and they felt so much healthier and less fragile than lots of modern horses. We need to start asking ourself if we really want to sacrifice the health of our horses for some fancy ass movements...

Thank you for showing one of germany's precious endangered breeds. I personally hate to see so many unique breeds from our country end up endangered or get swallowed up by generalized breed registries/studbooks. I hope the Rottalers can escape that fate but seeing as there are only so few left I doubt it. Such a shame given how they are one of the old type, sturdy built warmbloods we have which have an almost spanish flair to them. I'm happy you found a breeder with a typical, old suburb type stable. Those are such cozy places and usually the nicest of people too~. I hope you enjoyed your time here and come back to look at more of our less known breeds. ☺

That's a new breed to me but I suppose it makes sense there are small breeds all around in lands where the horse was a vital part of life for centuries. The Rottalers are fine looking horses.

I am surprised that this breed is endangered because they look like they would make excellent sport horses. What lovely conformation they have and they seem to have lovely dispositions as well. That foal was really outstanding! And the Stallion, well it's no wonder they kept him for breeding. He has it all, conformation, disposition and presence! Such nice gaits that mare has. I would love to have one of these horses.

I read about the Rottaler horses in a German book about rare domestic animal breeds. But I've never seen one in real life. Rottalers seem to be very relaxed and friendly horses.

Yes, you are finally in Germany, yay! I knew of the Rottaler Horse as a German. What I didn’t know was how endangered they are. I was so touched when you rode that young stallion, it felt so special to me as well!

First of all, a very interesting video about a beautiful, useful and, sadly, endangered race. I quote page 70 of Elwyn Hartley Edwards "The Larousse Guide to Horses and Ponies of the World", when he writes about the Bavarian Warmblood: "The Bavarian Warmblood was originally the chestnut warhorse of the Rott valley, the renowned Rottaler, the name being changed only recently. The Rottaler was well known at the time of the Crusades and, by 1500, was being bred systematically." Then Edwards writes that the Rottaler had infusions of Thoroughbred and Cleveland Bay blood and the result of this mixing was the Bavarian Warmblood, a race you could very well make a video about, don't you think? Thank you very much.

What a delightful and gorgeous ride! And that foal - lol! Just when I would start to wonder if he was getting tired trying to keep up with everyone else, he would decide that "just" running wasn't good enough. A bit of low level flight would make things more interesting. That little tail flagged out....😍

this is so amazing that you raise awareness for the Rottaler horse! I grew up on a farm close to Landshut, lower Bavaria, so from the Rottalers region. Such a good Mama and what a sturdy big foal. Interesting how countries have their own horse breeds and how so many of them are in the throws of being lost. This Rottaler seems to have served their country in so many ways as did our Canadian Horse breed. Similar athletes. Love the look of this horse. I hope your spotlight on them helps in a positive way. Happy New Year girl friend ❣🐴🍾

Wow I don't think I've ever seen a foal be taken out on a trail ride! I love it! There is so much debate in germany whether to keep foals and mares on the pasture full time or if working with the foals early on is better. I can say with certainty that this foal looks VERY healthy and I bet he's going to have a good endurance already once being able to be ridden. He will be used to being handled and he will be used to all spooky things of the outside world. I truely love this.

Domesticated animals were bred for purpose and often that purpose no longer exist. I feel for the horse breeds that can never be used for purpose, but life goes on. Remember there was a time when horse breeds did not exist there was just different species that had evolved to match their climate and fauna and provide food for carnivores. You have a purpose and all animals need a purpose to live a life.
