I grew up in Germany and I have always loved Haflingers. Now that I am “old” I finally have my own Haflinger (Gelding Yearling) 🥰 and yes he is a character 😆 and very intelligent.

I learnt Horse riding when I was 7 ….on a Haflinger farm in Germany … it was a small Breeder offering Holiday weeks for children …my Favorite was one of the Breeding Stallions, very dark 16 years old…but my Teacher was a mare named Stella, 7 Years old also …when visited this place again in 2008…it was was turned into a boarding stable…one of the last remaining Haflingers there was…Stella, 35 Years old and still in a god shape…and her daughter, at my time there here filly by foot…enjoyed retirement…I really stood in front of that stall and cried…I spent some of the best Summer weeks at that place as a child…I will always love Haflingers❤

@@JuliaFloyd-t5c Haflinger can be as cheap as 1.500, all depends on the level of training and bloodline. Most i've seen cost 5 - 7k.

My app was getting on in age and had arthritis, I was older, but not ready to quit riding. My farrier told me of a haflinger for sale - a perfect horse for you he said. What a little beauty. She is about the smaller type, but can outwalk a tennessee walking horse on the trails. Trot silky smooth, She is a wonderful horse, we are both retired now, I am 84 rode her until my hip gave way at age 82. She is now 29. She is a real buddy, hence her name is Buddy AKA Miz Buddy the Diva. She is intelligent and friendly, I love her and we had many fun years together. Rocky, hilly terrain is nothing to her. Water crossing just fine. She is a wonderful example of the breed.

Haflingers were one of the first two breeds I knew as a child, simply because not even 100 meters from my house there was a private pasture with a Haflinger and a Grey gelding of some sort on it. Both very kind and curious horses for any visitors to the area and they certainly gave me a warm, fuzzy feeling whenever I saw them. Thanks for showing off these pretty horses and where they live!

My heart just burst! A Haflinger was the first and only horse I ever owned. And I will never forget him. Haflingers have a special personality. If you get them on your side they will do anything for you, absolutely anything. As long as they get food 😂 I just love them and also rode them in the Austrian mountains. Absolutely special, this beautiful video was like traveling back in time. Thank you so much for that! And the gelding for sure is stunning. I am sure he was snagged up already by a new owner 😅 That flying golden mane 🥹 And Northern Italy is just so beautiful!

Haflinger horses are a very common breed on riding schools in the Netherlands! I currently take care of a 15-year old haflinger mare. Haflingers are really funny horses, they have a great sense of humour and they're just so friendly and intelligent! In my life, the haflingers I came across all knew how to open doors, it's as if it's a breed specific trick of somesorts. Funny but a bit frustrating at times haha

It was such an immersive, joyful experience that I felt like I was there with you. I love Haflingers but never had the opportunity to ride one when I was actively riding. Thank you for featuring the Haflinger. It brought back some good and bad memories of my Haflinger Yogie. He had shorter and thicker legs then the ones you showed. He also was much darker copper color with flaxen mane and tail. He was 13 hands high with huge feet. He had no white on him and he had a more of a pony head with dark muzzle. He also over stride with his hind legs which caused him to hit his back feet with the front ones. We sold him and little star to some people who did not take care of them. I went over to check on them and when I got there Yogie Bloated and the owner left me without giving me a knife which I could have relieved the pressure. Yogie died a horrible death which I was helpless to do anything. I never got over it and I hope you or anyone else ever have to experience that. I wish you could see what this horse could pull for a load and this is what he really loved to do; he was good at pulling your leg also!

I went to a riding camp two summers when I was around 12-13 years old, and they had a lot of haflingers! I had a really sweet and gentle haflinger mare my first year, and the second year I had another mare who were a little smaller but sturdier and a bit more forward thinking. They were both great for me at the time! I've also met a few others later in life. One was a riding school pony, he was a decent jumper but he was really nasty in the stable and took every chance he got to escape 😅 Another, privately owned, was also a runner. I had my own horses at the same stable, and many were the times where I helped catch the little golden pony! Finally, I know of a few haflingers that's been competing at quite high levels in dressage, showjumping and eventing! They're really versatile!

I just discovered your channel:what a happy find ! As a former equestrian and lover of Haflingers and South Tirol I thoroughly enjoyed your video. One suggestion, though. It would be nice to know more about the origin of the breed - the way I know it is that it is a cross between Arabian stallions and local farmhouse mares, which also explains the beautiful golden colour. My own Arabian was the exact same shade. Greetings from Italy!

I’m so glad your channel popped up on my home page! My favorite breed of horse! Although I do not ride, my daughter’s entire life has been around animals, especially horses and dogs. She is also an artist and painted a Haflinger named Amadeus for me many years ago. We also visited a Haflinger ranch in Florida. I lived in the mountains of NC and our neighbor in the valley had Haflingers…..So, I have many lovely memories of this breed. This video cheered my heart. Thank you! And if I recall correctly, there is a Haflinger in the background in one of the scenes from “The Sound of Music” ❤

Thank you for a really well-made video! I have actually been at the Unterwirt stables in Jenesien about six years ago during a holiday. They were staging the yearly presentation of foals and youngsters to the judges that day. My - local - friends and I really enjoyed that morning! So many incredibly beautiful horses to see! And the incredible Rosengarten crags in the background! This breed IS stunning and yes, very recognisable anywhere. They bred some Arab blood into the heavier farm horses decades ago, but then had to stop, as strength and the Arab's nerves are not a good combination, especially in the mountains! But it gave them gorgeous heads!... Unfortunately we couldn't stay all day, because my friends had booked a table for lunch almost an hour's drive away along that windy road along the Plateau. The South Tyrolean cuisine is usually very high quality! As one could also see in your hotel with the breakfast menu... After lunch, my friends drove me on still to the Hafling, where this breed originates, and we saw all the riding horses of a big stable there, the Sulfner, also with hotel, already out on a pasture. So, more of them to see for us! What a day that was!...

The four things Haflingers can't do; Be dumb Be dull Metabolize sugar well Stay thin. They CAN figure out how to open gates, escape stalls, break into feed rooms, convince you they're psychic, travel long distances efficiently, carry heavier riders very comfortably, and do all the disciplines mentioned. Mine has lovely gaits and I think he will grow up to do well with dressage (if he doesn't get bored), jumping, trail riding and driving. At less than a year old he really wants a JOB and loves learning and having something to do. I am completely relearning how to train baby horses because he is so incredibly smart and hates being disciplined. Love this video!! But I do wish it mentioned the 7 stallions in the US and the different lines here. I realize your videos probably have a very worldly audience, but I did miss hearing about that. Looking forward to your next video!

What I love most is their temperament and willingness to please. They love having fun, but need to have a job to do. If they get bored, they often find something to do that gets them into trouble. They are truly a all around mount. Sadly, I’m down to my last girl, she’s 24 years young. Another good thing about this breed is they tend to have long lives. I’m hoping my girl is one of the lucky ones to see 45 years.
