Number 2 in a series of Equine Stewardship Tips brought to you by Equine Challenge Supplements Changing the topical Ph of the skin will create an inhospitable environment for bacteria and fungus. Acetic Acid (white vinegar) will help soothe irritated skin and will remove residual soaps which can dry the skin leading to tail rubbing and such.

WOW. Thank you SO much! I was at a loss of what was causing my horse to lose hair and what to do, etc, and I was just about to call the vet and spend a butt load of money, but I decided I would check out KZbin first and see if maybe, just maybe, I could find some home remedy to help that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg because we're getting ready to move at the same time and need to conserve money as much as possible -- but I also want the absolute best for my mare -- thank you for this video!!! You explained the underlying solution and how to help her irritated skin now, and you gave helpful insight or "food for thought" as a lot of people would put it. PLEASE keep up your work! I'm going to look for more of your videos!!!

That is perfect, vinger is used in many ways. My Mom and probably your Mom used it to be completely clean. Obviously safe for sensitive areas. So I can feel good about spraying my horse down with it. Thank you

Ur a problem solver 4 me today, just found some mane dandruff on my baby Anna Nicole. She is a Palomino yearling and I didn't want to use a chemical solution on her. I had totally forgot about vinagar's cleansing ability! I love using it once a month on my own long hair. Thanks!

I was using a 50~50 ratio with Listermint and water it seems to work but yours makes more sense than using something that can irritate the skin. Its been cool here so Ive had to use a brush and spray bottle. Im drop the Listermint and jus use a dilute version of the vinager. Least until its warm enough for a good rinse. Btw will this help keep the ticks from getting on the affected areas? Theyre terrible here.

On your answer to fill the canister with vinegar and let the water run through it to dilute, that still doesn't say what dilution it is. My canister has dilution settings. Is it 1:1, as I think a canister with no settings would be? I don't want to assume and end up making the problem worse.

I am not familiar with your canister or its settings. A 1 to 1, 50/50 would be fine or you can try starting with a lwer setting and work up to 50/50 if needed.

Hi there! I have a mustang thats suffered every summer with sweet itch or some type of allergy. He rubs his entire mane and tail out each June. I thought feeding flax everday would help but no :( his neck is so tight and he's in so much pain from rubbing his skin raw. Will spraying vinegar solution on his open sores sting? Should I cover them with diaper cream first and then spray the rest of him down? I feel so hopeless...

Bert R Eriksen Hello... You can set it as high as it will go, as the water will mix with the vinegar. Don't wash it off when you are done, just let your horse dry in the sun.

Hello where can I get that sprayer that attaches to water hose I’ve seen some at Home Depot for garden and it says 2 cup of vinegar with water or u can do tsp of vinegar it releases with water. How much vinegar should it release
@equinechallengesupplements
@equinechallengesupplements Жыл бұрын
Hello. The sprayers at home depot in the garden dept. work great as well as the horse shampoos that come in a sprayer. If the sprayer has settings, choose the setting for a 50/50 dilutions, equal amounts of vinegar and water.
@LynelleHinkley
@LynelleHinkley 13 жыл бұрын
@sylvesmiller You can get these containers at any garden supply store or use an empty ezall shampoo sprayer. Or you can do what I did by putting 2 tbps of white vinegar in a spray bottle and then fill it full with water. I did it this way because it is starting to get too cold here for a bath but I still had sweet itch to get rid of. So far it is working. I have been using it for 3 days and the hair is already starting to grow back in. Also putting on a layer of Corona ointment helps too.

What is the vinager ratio? Could i just use a spray bottle? How often
@equinechallengesupplements
@equinechallengesupplements 11 күн бұрын
@@user-wn5ow9fp6i apply daily. You want to saturate the coat down to the skin. 50/50 if you use a spray bottle. If you use an attachment to a hose, 100% vinegar and the water from the hose will mix with it.

Bethany Mcferran Laminitis...You can't!! (I recommend having a really good vet and farrier always in reach during these cases). My horse suffered severe laminitis all winter, then abscesses. Cost me thousands! I am still trying to pay the bills off. The only GOOD thing was we had a lot of snow so he was outside most of the time standing with his feet in the snow, which helped (ice, keeping the feet cool, give Bute for pain and make sure the horse's stall is packed full with soft pine shavings). I bought my horse Soft Ride boots. They saved his life, and eased the pressure from his feet so much, the damaged lamina healed faster. Another horse at the barn has bad thrush. Been treating him with this stuff called Tomorrow. (I also used it in the hole where my horse blew an abscess out his coronary band). It works really well.
