Equinox Update Test and Review

Spent 3 hours on the beach testing F2 at default 6 and found my target digs reduced dramatically ! Switched to basic FE to test each signal and found that the signals suggested a dig---moved back to F2 and the dig proved to be a no dig because of the negative read outs fluctuating to minus etc. Got a distinct feeling that Minelab have scored a hit with this new upgrade ! I love that coil, but even crazier depth with that 15 inch coil, I use that on the regular. I found all kinds of stuff. My son and I have talked to you a few times along the James River there around the Chepo State Park area while we were searching for shark teeth a few years back, we always wonder how you’re doing and see you on here treasure hunting all the time,

You are a God amongst detectorists Mr Gigmaster! You certainly are! One of the best tutorials ever!! Just gonna upload the new update on my Nox 600 (hope it works for that as well as the 800, otherwise I am screwed!) I like your quote " im gonna set the F2 to 0 in the field and 9 on the beach" That pretty much sums it up! Get rid of the bottle cap ding and it will save me so so much time when hunting on the beach! Just done the update on the 600 and it has worked perfect! It has given me 3 settings not 9, but I am still happy. So I get a setting of 3,6 and 9 instead of your 9 settings on the 800 F2 setting. Also, it has given me a low backlight setting that you have on the 800, only one low light setting and one high, but its better than nothing I suppose. Sweet. One happy man! Will be trying it out early tomorrow morning on the beach! Thanks for heads my Mr GM, maybe you might want to mention that on your next video to all those poor people with the 600 ha ha!!

@@tugboat8475 Hi. Yes, you are right, the Nox 600 only has three settings. but that is the equivalent to 3, 6, and 9 on the 800 version. So dont worry, you still have good control on 2 setting. I either use the 2 or 3 as they really get rid of the bottle tops. Make sure you have it on all metal mode so you can see and hear the iron. Happy hunting!

Nice video! But notice, in the F2=9 you got more sens (5 blocks) and in the (F2=0 4 blocks). Thank you for your support with the Equinox, that really helps a lot! Keep goin!

Nice job gig great video. You might want to try From what I was told F 2 at 6 it’s a good middle of the road setting. It also sounds like The sound has changed as well higher pitch. If you could test a zinc penny against a copper penny I would be curious to see what it reads and what it sounds like. The same between a clad quarter or a dime and a silver quarter or a dime. I also understand that it will knock out large steel washers. Can’t wait to get mine updated and try it. Thanks for all your information you’re awesome.

In test iv done 6 inches or less with f2 9 on a bottle cap will come up iron -6,-7 , but if I moved away anything above 6+ inches in depth it would go back to a positive signal

For a better understanding if the setting is zero at f2 does that mean Fe is the current setting for the machine

Mark Clifford It is my understanding you can only use one or the other so if you have f2 on zero that is what you have. FE is not active at that point

Good video. With your testing what do you think is better FE or F2? I have yet to update my machine until I hear more feedback. Also I am in idaho so I dont do much beach hunting unless its river banks.

hitting the all metal helps it id the caps.. I've been using it on my beach and I find F2 better than the old FE but it does require tweaking to the right number, been using 6 here and htting the horsehoe gives that iron grunt.. GL and HH ! :-)

For the last test I wonder what would happen if you ran it in discriminate mode ( so you didn't hear the iron) if the coin would be picked up better at 0 or 9

It still picks up bottle caps...certain types. Here is Australia it still bangs on low 20s on some caps. Also found it to be more unstable with the new update. Back to the release firmware I go. That's 2 updates that I have found to be less beneficial than the original.

Great video as always. After experimenting with the F2/9 i have noticed lots of jumpy negative signals. With the F2 setting that high is there any chance of discriminating out good gold targets like fine chains etc? Primarily beach hunt, so im looking for the hottest settings and not miss the good targets, thanks.

Gigmaster that was a great test of the new setting. Did you do any testing leaving the detector in the preset of "6?" I know lots of folks hunt in the preset mode and was curious if your results were similar. Bill

Nice vid Steve. I am not sure about testing the new Iron Bias on both extremes 0 or 9. There is plenty of range in between. I use it at 6 and have basically stopped pulling up the crown type bottle caps. For some reason, most of the ones I am pulling up are Corona. They got something in that cap that makes it look good. Well done.

I have updated mine and am also using 6 with good luck, combines with the horshoe button for non- discrim, helps bring out the iron grunts and it's working nice to avoid the caps.

Hi Gig, first off I have watched most of the videos regarding this update. For me, your is the most sensible approach to understanding and showing a more accurate result of the update. I have been hesitant to download this due to downloading things in the past and then all of a sudden they need a patch to fix the original upgrade download. I have more confidence in the download now. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together. I have a question. in beach mode 2. running the new program F2... if you "do not" turn on the iron and search the beach, will the upgrade change any thing? or are there only changes if you are running the iron mode in the new F2 program? Thanks

Some Beach Detecting It will revert to the default setting for the setting you are using. Check the manual for the defaults

I noticed that tape measure was left on that board. That's a big hunk of metal that can prob be detected 2' away. Do you think that could have confused the Nox?

When i use only the big search coil 15 inches the bottle cap signal it coming with 17 id so now with the new update I can use the equinox machine with 15 inches search coil without finding any bottle cap .. thanks mate

Steve I just updated my equinox 800 to 3.0 I never put the 2nd upgrade. When I updated to 3.0 will it have the other upgrade included or do I have to do the second before the 3rd. Thanks Happy Hunting

I don’t know if you saw my comment the other day about not being able to upgrade my nox. Anyway I wanted you and any body else having a problem with showing multiple detecters when trying to upgrade. What allowed me to successfully upgrade was byNOT having the detector in multi freq. put in single freq. it worked for me.

it applies to both however the 600 only offer 0-1-2-3 while the 800 goes up to 9. If you're using a 600 and hunting on the beach or at the park you probably want to be in F2-3 but try it out and see how it goes.

Great vid, thanx. Suggestion, for the field setting test (if you are doing the same type of air test) use square nails and not screws. Also, tape a silver dime about 3 inches from a bottle cap, cap facing up and facing down.
