I have had a Breville for several years now. It does perform very well and we use it almost every day, but you should expect the convection fan will die long before the rest of the oven does. Fortunately, you can turn the convection fan off and use the oven normally when that inevitably happens. But if you look into it, you find out that the fan is a well known defect, very common with these ovens. On ours, the buttons on the oven are now starting to go bad, so despite the very high price, it is not long for this world. It is rather disappointing that build quality/long term reliability is not part of this evaluation, because the Breville is so expensive it really should not just perform well but be screwed together well too. It definitely isn't. We will be replacing it with something else when it dies. Call me old fashioned, but I expect quality at this price point.

It remembers the last settings for each cooking mode, so if you cook a particular thing all the time, you just push start and insert the pan. Very much worth the money.

Btw, I do have the previous model of this breville toaster oven. It is everything they say it is. Hands down the best toaster oven I have ever owned and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. One thing to remember though.... as good as this is, it is not a traditional oven and do not use it as such. You will wear it out. Its fine for the occasion small roast chicken or frozen french frys, tator tots, etc. But do not use this to cook things you would/should in a traditional oven on a regular basis. It will fail on you as mine did. My wife use to cook things that had long cook times (in my opinion, long cook times for a toaster oven constitutes anything at or around 20 minutes) almost daily. I think the high temps and long cook times fried the circuit board cuz the oven setting doesn't work anymore. Toaster setting still works great but the roast/bake setting is inoperable.

I hope you can go back and review these toaster ovens with the air-fryer function (the Breville, Cuisinart, Ninja Foodie, etc.) and really put them through their paces. I like the breville air smart oven. I read online where reviews state that the winning model breaks often, due to an element overheating. The upgrade to the breville air oven fixes that problem, I think; it keeps a fan blowing to circulate the air after the oven is done cooking, which dissipates the heat. The upgraded breville fan can also move more air, with a ‘super convection’ feauture, so the fan is probably built stronger/more durable, or at least I hope so. I bought mine at Bed Bath Beyond when it was on discount, and I used their 20% off coupon, so my smart oven cost the same as the winning model.

The convection fan still works. The only thing that's gone wrong is that the spring that pulls up the door broke. Supposedly, it's not hard to fix, but I haven't bothered since it works fine without it. Toast is good, but still not quite as good as a dedicated toaster. I don't think any toaster oven is.

I love your reviews, thank you for such thorough research! I've been buying products that you've recommended for 8 years now, including this oven.

Toaster oven @ 5:40 If you know how to read the symbols on the device in the movie Stargate, then you should eventually be able to decipher the symbols on that toaster oven device and unlock the commands on how to control it. You will then be able to send your asparagus through the space/time continuum.

The 2022 review on Toaster Ovens sound exactly the same as this one. Both reviews state Breville BOV800XL Smart Oven is still their favorite. Yet there are so many complaints on Breville website on this product.

I wish they tested the June oven. More expensive ($499), but a true smart oven that performs excellent! I can preheat from my phone.

I have a Breville. I love it. The only time I use the wall oven is when I am baking an item on a large pan that requires that space.

I haven’t used a full sized oven in over 15 years, love my Cuisinart toaster oven. But they have changed them since I bought mine and I will have to check this out

Great review. Missing from this and other reviews is a comparison of energy used.

The 30 second mark shows a flaw in that model that I would find disqualifying. The oven door sprang back up toward the back of the tester’s fingers and if it had been hot and touched them it would have burned them. Oven doors that are OPEN should lay flat (or maybe they could make them slide under and out of the way) and not sprint back up.

I buy odd-sized bread, so I toast in my Cuisinart toaster oven a lot. I also bake and reheat foods that do not spatter, since cleaning the inside of an oven isn't just wiping it away. Microwaves do a terrible job of cooking/heating proteins, and the toaster oven does it well.

I've owned the "winner" oven for about 5 years. If this is as good as it gets, then other ovens are absolute trash. The Breville's dial knobs work intermittently. Sometimes while turning it up, it actually goes down, or jumps 10 clicks, or down 15 clicks, or shuts everything off. It's as random as a magic 8-ball. Every single knob has this strange problem. Even the push-buttons do weird things. Also, it cooks a little unevenly. I cook bacon trays in the oven a lot, usually the bacon is cooked in the back, and raw in the front. I can work around this, but something worth mentioning.

I bought a Black and Decker Crisp and Fry from Costco recently……it’s back at the store! Breville here I come. More than I wanted to spend, but in this case it will be worth it I’m sure.

Looks like a great deal especially if you can avoid using a full-sized oven. If a Dutch oven fit it would be a great tool for slow braising

Very good video......I'm shopping for a new one now......Just buried my 1979 Toastermaster the other day; it was a very reliable piece of equipment for 41 years of almost constant use.....no doubt it was made here in the USA.....now...it seems it's just a crapshoot as to what I buy, as far as reliability goes.

I own it and agree ! Has slow cook and pizza settings. I rarely use my full oven anymore.

Hi, i hope someone from americas test kicthen will read this. :D When a white bread toastes way faster, a rye or another bread that has 0 percent of white wheat flour, its need a dark setting to make the bread toast the same rate as white bread. I think, because rye starch transfer to sugar slower than wheat.

Very informative. Didn't know there different burners. You touched on a couple of issues I have with my year old(with extended warranty🙄) toaster oven, longer cooking time and temperature setting off vs my oven. I know what I will be looking at for my next toaster oven. Thank you.
