Need information on what the largest valve seats and valve diameter that will fit in a 7.3 bored 40 over, I’ve heard a 2 step valve seat that measures a tad above 1.9” from Tucker Valve Seat Company. Still in communications with them currently waiting for confirmation

I agree with you. You want the engine room to be clean as a patient surgical procedure room. When I was growing up there was a neighbor who worked on cars on the side who always told me cleanliness is important.

I agree. The crankshaft is really the heart of the engine and a very important part of the rebuilding process. The way it’s ground and polished and balanced basically determines whether the engine has a long or short operating life.

Could you do a more detailed video on the burn off oven? Is it vented? How do you stop it catching fire to the grease? Over in the UK pyrolysis is almost never used amd it would be interesting to see the process and equipment in detail!

Keep in mind that detergents are all caustic to some extent as it creates an environment which gets maximum performance out of the surfactants. The more severe cleaning the product is intended to do, the more caustic is the formulation. Auto dishwash detergent is much more caustic than laundry detergent, and scrub cleansers such as Comet are more caustic yet.

Right! I guess in the machine shop "caustic" typically refers to "caustic soda" aka Sodium Hydroxide. And anything else we say is non-caustic although I suppose that is technically incorrect!

10:10 Hopefully the Rottler you’re looking at is the H85AX. That’s what Greg Anderson of Pro Stock fame, and Steve Morris Engines (he just got his) use. It’s a really amazing machine, in so many ways.

Growth and new tech is certainly expensive but it doesn’t take long to fall behind either. For the smaller shops , it's real easy to finance yourself out of business . A paid for , slightly slower machine can make you a lot of money instead of making payments ...........

100%. Takes a lot of volume to pay for a lot of these machines. At the same time, automation allows one person to do the work of 2-3 people in certain situations, so it's a balance.

Thanks for the video. Can I offer you a suggestion? While a CNC machine for block work is appealing, in my view they are over priced and over simplified. Invest in a CNC vertical bed mill. Look for a machine that has the most X and Z axis travel you can afford. Spring for 4th axis capability. With some basic fixtures that you can make, buy, or even customize with the machine, it can bore, deck, do lifters, do main caps, and with certain accessories line bore mains and cam tunnels. If need be, a class at a local college can get you rolling on G code and conversational. The money you save over a dedicated automotive CNC machine you can put towards the purchase of a Sunnen SV30. Yes I agree! Another thing I’m tired of outsourcing. We’ve talked about trying to get the attachment for our CV616 when we get the new hone. Have the CV616 mainly set up for that but also still have it around for some of the off jobs we get once in a while that we might not have tooling on the new machine for.
