Thank you Alix for your advice and insist. For anyone who is doing a Laborer Job on a Ditch trench. If the supervisor or OWNERS starts YELLING at you to get in Ditch, over 4 feet. With NO protection (trench box) or even 2 × 6 up and down boards, with 2 × 4 cross bracing. WALK OFF the Job. QUIT Right then. Your life is more important than the scummy company (and there are many) that don't use SHORING. It's a company you want to stay away from. Please Just Leave the JOB if the clown's in charge don't care about shoring up a ditch. I have seen this my whole life, with a supervisor who just cares about the timeline, and could NOT care a red penny about YOU the person who has to get in Ditch. We as Labor people have to start just LEAVING job sites.

Was in a 6 ft trench. Broken pelvis and sacrum when I was 20 years old 8 years ago. Very lucky. Didn’t have safety equipment. Take the time to prepare. It’s worth it

My grandfather was working on the installation of a sewer line in small town Ontario. Late 40s, pick and shovel Operation. The trench collapsed on him. In the excitement of the moment a fellow worker dinged him in the forehead with a pick axe. Lived, sported a dent between the eyes for the rest of his long life. Lucky, blessed, not his time. There is no reason to be in a trench without protection.

It’s no joke, I got buried ten feet under the ground completely and was rescued, digging a sewer in providence RI, with 20 years experience

My dad was in a cone crusher (around 00-06) involved in a collapse of material. About 1,000+ pounds pushed into his knee. Doctors wouldn't do surgery due to his age. This issue includes crushers too. Thanks guys.

Took me alot of searching to find a trench safety video from real people rather than osha, sad that there apparently are none in this macho construction culture today. Kind of weird as I come more from the carpentry side of things and there are tons of real videos on ladder or tool safety.
