hi sir, is it necessary to check on the navps before buying if you are for long term investment? what if theres a new mutual fund in the market and the navps is low compared to other top performing mutual funds does it mean that its better to buy the new mutual fund for long term? (eg: Philequity index 5.6 vs. Sunlife index 1.0)

it doesn't matter what the navps is, really. for example, one index tracker fund may be priced at P50/share and one at P100. if the market goes up by 20% in one year, then they both go up by the same magnitude--whether P100 or P50--they both go up by 20%.

If opening a stock investment will give you the money you need by the time you need it, then it is ok. 2) Short-term horizon means 3-5 years time. So if you need the money within that period, better have it in very conservative instruments.

shevin thanks for watching our videos. The market timing depends also on the amount that you would be investing. Currently, the index is at 8700. If you wait for 8500, then it would mean it would fall 2.3% more. Now if you are investing 100k, that means that if you invest now and the market goes down to 8500, then you can have a paper loss of P2,300 (2.3% of 100k). Of course the bigger the amount, the bigger the peso value of potential loss. But if for example the amount is 10k, then the potential loss is P230 (2.3% of 10k). Now the question is: is it worth your effort to time the P230 difference? So it really depends also on the amount that you are investing. Otherwise, just do peso cost averaging if you are in it for the long-term. Thanks!

rey aldrin estacio they are practically the same, but as with all pooled funds, it kight be inevitable that they have cash positions due to profit-taking and/or additional contributions from clients in which case, could create a difference on the portfolio vs the index (remember that psei is pure stocks). nonetheless, if the difference is minimal or negligible, then it is a good tracker fund.
