I’ve had to use the Emergency Room because Urgent Quick Care not open. It was 4am, and I spent 2 hours at home trying to urinate, but could not. My bladder felt like it was gonna burst. No way I could wait till 7am when Urgent Care opened in our town. I got the care I needed in the ER. Went home with a Foley catheter, and followed up later with my primary doctor. I ended up being referred to a Urologist. CT scan showed I had a large stone in my bladder and many in my left kidney. That large stone was the cause! It moved across the area over my urethra, and I was unable to void on my own. Thank God for that ER that helped me. 😊

Not really a question, but I was working as an electrician at a hospital remodel. An accident occurred one day when a laborer fell into an open elevator shaft breaking his leg. The fire department responded to remove him from the pit. Despite the hospital and Fire department buildings being adjacent to each other and sharing the same parking lot, they were required by procedure to load the fire truck and then drive around the block, before they could start the rescue!

However, years before I walked in with extreme pain - they triaged me, did a scan, told me I had a grapefruit size ovarian mass, gave me pain meds and gave me referral to a surgeon for Monday morning with never setting foot into an ER room.

When I was interning at a hospital, there was a patient with CDIFF, and I couldn't even go near their room. As soon as I smelt it, my gag reflex went insane. I had to sit at the nurses' station to calm myself down so I wouldn't vommit. That's when I decided the hospital setting wasn't for me.

I initially went to the Urgent Care for persistent pain in my lower right abdomen, especially when applying pressure, and the nurse there immediately sent me to the ER to get a CT scan done since they aren't equipped to do that there. Turned out I had acute appendicitis and I was in surgery 4 hours later to have my appendix removed. Learned a lot of strange things and felt a lot of strange things leading up to the surgery, from somehow being able to taste and smell saline that was used to clean my IV tube to the very weird feeling when I was given the CT scan contrast dye, then finally feeling them open up the anesthesia mixture and knock me out almost instantly. At least it's just a one time deal and I won't have to worry about that again!

a few years back a friend was in the maternity ward, she was in a twin room and the lady in the next bed was 'hooking up' during visiting hours. a young nurse walked into the room, looked, walked out again. a few minutes later the ward supervisor came in quietly asked them to finish up and then banned the husband from coming in. later on we were told that 'hooking up' helped speed up delivery for some people, when we came in the next day, the woman had given birth. our friend gave birth to a little girl about 2 days later, merely hours before she was scheduled for an emergency c section. she is now 18 yrs old.

Why does it always take so long between “We’re letting you go home” and actually getting to go? I was in an EMPTY ER the other day, and it still took hours. I could see the nurse’s stand, and they were sitting around talking and laughing, so I know it’s not that they were backed up with paperwork to get me out. It was confusing (and frustrating).
@ryanlocke53656 ай бұрын
ER nurse here, I don’t know the exact scenario but times like that, our part is done but the provider may be waiting to hear back from a consult. And to be honest, if there’s nothing to do like an empty ER, it’s probably the only chance the nurses will get to laugh that day before it gets slammed.

I'm English and live in the UK, where we also have the emergency department, but it is called a&e. I luckily haven't had to go there many times throughout my childhood, only to have the back of my head glued back together when I hit it on a sharp area of my Mum's mirror when i was like 7 or 8. You said in the video that the Urgent care department is for life-threatening injuries or cases similar to that, but a&e also does that here in the UK. I guess I'm quite confused because it seems like all of the departments can sometimes be crammed into one area, and so it makes it more difficult to know where you need to go in certain cases. Could you maybe try and help me understand the differences more??

About the smell at the beginning of the video: I work as an assistant in a veterinary clinic, we had one patient - a 13-year-old dachshund. he was good-looking, “from the top,” so to speak, healthy. But from the groin... Everything there just rotted. It's really rotten. They tried to save him for about three days, but they failed: the abscess spread along the inside of his thighs and began to creep inside, even his organs began to be damaged. I had to resort to euthanasia. So what am I talking about? Guys, the smell that this dachshund emitted is simply incomprehensible. When I sterilized his cage after he left, I had to wear three gauze bandages to at least reduce the smell.

I remember hearing a story years ago about somebody that ended up outside of an ER. I don’t remember if they were brought or if they collapse but they were steps from the ER ambulance store not the ER walk in the ambulance bay so they could be seen by staff staff sees them calls 911911 says they’re on your freaking property. Go get them long story short the person died and they watch the person die and that’s an excusable. I mean I’m sorry go out and get them for God sake I mean, that person should not have died. I hope to God somebody would come and get me. . I’m actually legally blind and I was dropped off once at the wrong entrance to the hospital. It was at a surgery center and when they realized it, they actually had to send somebody out to get me because I wasn’t anywhere near where I was supposed to be and I was so confused, really concerned me because I was like what if I were dying and I was inches away from the door and nobody would come and help me. It really bothered me a lot because I’ve been vulnerable before. .

I have been extremely unlucky when it comes to having emergency situations diagnosed. I went to an urgent care because I was vomiting poop I was told it’s completely impossible for that to happen. Long story short my mother would die very soon after that same thing she died choking on poop so yes, it’s possible, it’s very horrible. It still gives me nightmares that she died that way but yes I had a very unusual case. I basically had a blockage in my intestine caused by my intestine, not moving so it wasn’t physically blocked so that Doctor was full of shit literally . I also was in this happened to be in the ER but it was like a small ER that we have here. I was misdiagnosed I had sepsis and I was in so much pain. My blood pressure was 245 over something was screaming when they were moving me they interpreted this as, a fracture that they could not see no joke that’s what they told me. They were sure my shoulder was broken, even though it looked fine because I was screaming that it was now I had open diabetic infected wounds on my feet that they refused to look at well they had intentionally not treated the infection because my Medicare will only cover the treatment I needed if it was in my bones, so the plan was to let it get to my bones then they were treat it however they didn’t expect it to jump to my shoulder. I didn’t expect that either , so I ended up with sepsis spend a month in the hospital ended up being basically partially paralyzed. That wasn’t the worst thing I’m legally blind. I have a guide dog I needed to go to a long-term facility for rehabilitation and because my shoulder needed to be packed when the facility refused to take me because I had a dog completely illegal. I was told that I would need to watch impact my shoulder. I told the doctor I said I’m not sure what you were taught about blindness but it’s not something I can turn on and off, oddly enough this was not the first time I had been treated like this by a different doctor 10 years earlier I was accused of being a drug addict because I had sunglasses on even though my guy dog was right next to me . I said I can’t do this. Obviously I can’t see it when they finally said well. The facility is not gonna take you. I assumed I would just stay in the hospital. They literally put me in a wheelchair. Drove me home a pick me up. Put me in the wheelchair to staff members rolled the wheelchair in my home lifted me into my bed. Got me some water and some snacks. Got me a dog biscuit bag for the dog and I said I can’t believe you’re just leaving me here I have nobody I live alone and I can’t even go to the bathroom. I was told hopefully a nurse will be there tomorrow and they left me alone. That still wasn’t worst. I’ve been charged $5000 because the medication I received was never meant to be done at home. My insurance is refusing to pay for it. Obviously, I still cannot even get a lawyer, even though it’s against the law, they are when you have Medicare there’s a number that you’re supposed to call if you need one to challenge your discharge they refused to give me the number again illegal but nothing I can do about it
