When i passed out in the ER, I hit my head. Not only did I get moved to the front of the line, I got a helicopter ride to another hospital where I also got to be first in line.
@SteveM195919 күн бұрын
The 2 stories about passing out in ER and going to the front of the line and the one about law enforcement reminded of this story. Back in 2003, my (now late) wife and I were at the hospital to see a specialist. We're in with the doctor and the receptionist knocks and comes in and whispers something in the doctors ear. Doctor says you have to go back to the waiting room, NOW. As we walk out 2 police and 2 corrections officers lead a man in an orange jump suit and shackles into the doctors office. So if you want to get to the front of the line, show up with 4 armed guards and chains.

My friend was on a little island in the Cook Islands and her foot swelled up. There was no puncture or bug bite or anything but it was very full. They went to the ER who told her that the doctor had already gone home for the day, all that was left was an emergency dentist. She figured "may as well" because at least dentists can write painkiller/anti-swelling etc meds. So he drained her foot - copious amounts of fluid and said she needed to get to a better hospital ASAP. It was their last night anyway so she came home and the hospital said that the dentist saved her toes, probably her whole foot and possibly her life.

@@justjo7282 No kidding! Medical people are medical people - they all have basic right? Last year I had a stuffy head that would just NOT go away. It wasn't sinuses or a cold or anything. My friend's husband is a vet and he said "let's have a look" and got his scope. (I said "don't use the horse one!") He asked if I'd ever broken my nose - yes but 2012...he pressure washed out this HUGE blood clot that had been forming little by little in a crack in my nose!

I had been the ER 3 times. The first time was on March 7th,2012 when I broke my left ankle in a bad car accident. The 2nd was on July 6th,2016 that I had my appendix removed and the pain was the worst for walking for me. The 3rd time was when I sprained my right ankle in a bad fall just outside of my apartment on October 19th,2019 on my sister’s birthday. I thought that I broke that ankle when I was trying to get up a couple times. I called 911 to helped me to get up and even called my mother to drive me to the hospital. I tore a ligament in my right ankle. It did swelled up and was so bruised up on the entire foot and ankle. I have a walker on hand for me in walking and wearing a boot a couple of weeks. I didn’t drove my car during that time,too. It was hard to drive at first because of my ankle was still sore and a little bit swollen. I was in the hospital for almost 2 days on my left ankle and almost 5 days on my appendix being removed. I was very good patient on my appendix being removed and I did joked around with the nurses. My mood changed from not feeling to good to being my old self and was a little bit weak after surgery.

I live in a very rural area. We are a county seat and approximately half the county population lives here. We have a class 5 facility, with a visiting doctor on occasion and it is staffed with some physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners. The doors are barely open and we fight to keep it open otherwise medical response in some areas around us would fall to 4.5 hours or more. For a lot of things they will stabilize you then dispatch you by air ambulance to a bigger facility. Have you ever worked in such a remote minimal facility?
@Spiderman-_-00721 күн бұрын
8:12 a very good example is if a patient is combative and restless and tries to remove the iv fluid lines and interrupts the treatment that’s being given to them the nurse can and has to restrain the patient and then document and create the medical order after notifying the doctor I’m a nurse so that’s why I know

I have a funny story. I once fell down my stairs and dislocated my left shoulder. I had my neighbor drive me to urgent care after showing him, at the time what I had thought was a broken bone, but was a dislocated shoulder. They could not give me any strong painkillers. During X-rays they asked me to flex my shoulder muscles (yes, that was beyond agonizing) to get good images - then, my doctor spent the better part of an hour trying to reset my shoulder. Right as I was about to give up, he popped it back in place. The level of, "OHHHHHHHHHH" was nothing short of amazing. I fell back on the table with an enormous sigh, sat up, feeling the normal motion of my shoulder, and tried to give my doctor a hug. He was scared at first due to me not giving any indication of what I was doing, but quickly realized I was just happy that he had significantly reduced my pain. It was extremely funny for both of us and I was put in a sling immediately after. Either way, I'll never forget the "gentle" way to relocate a shoulder. And will hope that I will always have someone that does it the quick and painful way. An hour vs 15 seconds isn't something I'll condemn.

This is just dark humor. When we have a patient with extreme supraventricular tachycardia and we give adenosine... I'll admit we bet on the time the adenosine will make its full effect. Yes, we do have a very dark humor; we will treat you like the most important person in the world, but as soon as we get you to an ER, we'll do rock paper scissors to determine who cleans the ambulance. PSA: If you want to become a paramedic, which is a beautiful career, don't worry about the blood, or the beeps, or the bumps on the road while you try to put an IV; train yourself to withstand poop and vomit because you'll see quite a lot of that.
