Beautiful thanks for the ride fellas. Love that canopy....that plane is awesome. Why they ever stopped making them is beyond me. I watch a cool vid on the history of the Ercoupe ,interesting story.

Fun to see your videos of my part of the world! I was out walking the dogs the evening you guys flew by. I remember because I saw the Steerman and thought "he must be on his way to the fly in". FWIW, the track at Madras is a Freightliner trucks test track, you will often see them testing large semi trucks while flying over.

I’m sorry for being late to the party but I’m glad I sat down and watch the entire video. The shot of Mt. Hood was worth the journey. Beautiful shot of the cloud positioning and the sun casting rays through the edges of the cloud. AMAZING!! Great shot Sir! Now I need to view the other two of your videos posted. Thank you for taking us along for the trip! Where’s Charles? He should have come along too!!

I believe the 'race track' at Madras is a highway testing facility. Different types of road surfaces are put down and trucks with exactly calculated weights are driven on it to determine suitability. Here in Minnesota the DOT has a similar track parallel to Interstate 94. In addition a section of test road is used by everyday traffic, west bound traffic is moved to test road for a period of time then shifted back to the standard lanes while the test section is analized.

Great trip. FYI..Madras ( pronounced MAD-ras) has a giant runaway that was a B17 Base. It is now headquarters for the Erickson Air Museum collection ( excellent !) and also the conversions shops where Erickson converts old airplanes into fire bombers. Worth a visit sometime !

Great video as usual! Many people think of the Hollywood version of Oregon with snow-capped mountains, trees, and rivers. But 2/3 of the state is as you saw it with sagebrush, tumbleweeds, and scattered pines at higher elevations. It's much drier east of the Cascades.

Another great video! I love that you keep the audio minimal with communication and commentary, just enough! If you ever run out of ideas for videos, might I suggest one about your Ercoupe and how you came across it, how it is equipped etc?

I'm intrigued by your canopy.....it must go underneath your seat!

It's a clever design, and yes, it does run around runners under the seat. I like it!

Another awesome video, James. Thanks for sharing. I assume you were on an Air-to-air frequency. Did you miss not having one of you on Flight Following? How did the three planes compare, performance wise. You apparently out climbed the Stearman. Did one of you have to throttle back a little so the others could keep up?
@JamesGood5 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken. Yes, we went to 123.45 while not in the dep/arr airport areas. I would usually be on FF on my own, but with the three of us, we had 3 sets of eyes, were low and slow, and it was nice to chat... Performance wise, the Stearman is a little slower than me (maybe 10mph), the Luscombe a little faster. Not sure what prop the Luscombe has, and the Stearman is just very different! We basically aimed for 85mph, that being comfortable for the Stearman.

I am confused...your takeoff included "Mixture's rich" 00:45 just before takeoff from S21. The field elevation for Sunriver (S21) is 4163.4 feet. By not leaning the mixture prior to takeoff, aren't you concerned about the huge decrease in power? Flying out of higher altitude airports in the Sierras and the high deserts of Nevada, I would lean to the point of engine roughness and then add enough mixture to smooth it out during my run-up, prior to departure. HUGE difference in power and take-off performance. This was especially true when the density altitudes were high. The carburetor doesn't care what the *actual* elevation is, it only cares about what elevation it _feels_ like (density altitude). I'm not trying to be critical, but trying to help with what I learned in my years of flying.
@JamesGood5 жыл бұрын
My check list has an entry for 'Mixture Rich', but I know that means 'en-richen appropriately', not just jam it in full rich at 4,000'. Thanks for the comment!

Another interesting video. The still shot of your plane from above was cool. Why is the pilot in the bi-plane flying the plane from the 2nd seat?
@JamesGood4 жыл бұрын
Hi Razz. Andrew flies from the back, because that's how the aircraft is balanced. Someone has to sit in the rear, but the front is optional. The center of gravity is at the front seat position.

Wow James! What a fantastic flight for beautiful landscapes & mountains! It must be great to have a hobby like this and great friends to enjoy it with you. I missed out the reason for this flight, so now I realize that it was a fly-in of so many aircraft. Looking forward to the next episode. BTW, what is that you do that enables you to spend time flying? Just curious, that's all.

I do software for aviation fuel sales. So I often use my software when filling up the Ercoupe! Not terribly glamorous, but it does let me do this, so I'm very thankful for it.

So.. which one of you is flying the slowest slow plane? I'm green with envy by the way. Safe landings to all.
@JamesGood5 жыл бұрын
The Stearman is the slowest. But it certainly has the most presence!
@Jb-Raja5 жыл бұрын
James Good it sure does. My favourite has to be the Ercoupe. Especially in chrome. My favorite feature has to be the twin rudders and the split sliding canopy. I love all your videos for their quality and content, although I’m not a pilot myself I can almost feel myself doing this. Thank you.
