This is so amazingly editted. I think the original cut of "declaration of war" missing a lot of opportunity for more emotional scenes and soundtracks.

I rewatched season 4 and realized they've been reusing a small number of soundtracks a lot for the final season. Leitmotif almost wasn't used at all and the whole pacing of the dialogue scenes is killed by constant narrow angles on characters' faces. To me it was creating this weird claustrophobic feeling that really wasn't needed in a lot of those shots. Mostly it just prevented me from fully understanding the location of the dialogue happening. After rereading those same chapters in the manga I saw a lot of wider shots that were letting me understand the locations in a much clearer way and didn't just focus on the faces in the most boring way.

this is fucking amazing but my only nitpick is that in the shot of willy before eren appears, you can hear erens roar (1:03) and it’s the same volume when he bursts out and i feel like there was a missed opportunity for impact by muffling it until he bursts out. other than that, the parallels were excellent and made sense. it was edited into the scene nicely without it feeling forced or jarring. the extra adjustments to erens roar were incredible and made him feel so much more monstrous, as well as the general destruction sfx adding so much more impact to the scene. the way you were able to add to this moment with so much emotion while keeping the buildup almost feel like eren is going to forgive reiner and perfectly transitioning into the true nature of the scene with the vogel im kafig melody. other edits make erens transformations too predictable with YSBG or the leaked ost. im sure this scene is a lot of fun to play with but in my honest opinion this is the definitive best version of declaration of war possible without any additional changes to the animation by MAPPA, which clearly isn’t necessary for turning this already great scene into something even more impactful. 👏

oh man you triggered my OCD... i did think that would be a great idea to add but I kept forgetting it after every render. thank you for your comments, i'm glad you enjoyed the vid. i appreciate that you really understood what i was trying to go for with the flashbacks and the music and all that. Yeah a common complaint was that YSBG ruined the buildup but then i realized that based sawano actually made a soft piano version of the first part of ysbg! Edit: just tried the muffling, damn it's really effective man, gonna keep that in mind when i do more edits. I may do a sfx edit of the warhammer titan ep if i find gripes with it lol

I kinda get why Mappa went with 2Volt for this scene (a callback to when the Colossal Titan appeared in episode 1). But man, YOUSEEBIGGIRL makes this scene hit so much harder. Amazing edit btw. 2Volt is a S2 OST btw. This edit does the callback a lot better imo, because this exact part of Vogel im Kafig plays when Eren's mom got eaten in ep1, and ends the episode with the same drums.
