Wacom 27 QHD: amzn.to/2uymmBw
HP Z4: amzn.to/30UToYE
WD Red 6TB: amzn.to/2NZzkPQ
Putting together a great creative set-up is a tough challenge and something that is ever evolving. Here's my take on a great work-space for digital artists, video editors, animators, illustrators and creatives and creators of all kinds in need of a professional (and powerful) set-up.
The Wacom 27 QHD Touch is a tablet I have a lot of videos on and I've loved for years. I've used this for years and it's still a great tablet even though I've upgraded to the Cintiq Pro 32". Many of you might choose this just to save some cash but it is worth looking at.
The Ergotron MXV arm isn't a well known arm compared to the Ergotron LX or Sit/Stand Desk Arm but it's sleek and powerful. It can hold that large Wacom drawing tablet or whichever monitor tablet you have.
The HP Z4 Is a powerful desktop which is easy to upgrade and capable of handling large creative tasks. Over the course of a couple of weeks I couldn't find a single professional task that this didn't handle well.
All together these three devices work fantastically to create a great working environment for artists. I hope you like it too. If you have any thoughts for improvements then I'd love to hear them in the thoughts below. I've got a few more in my other videos - including alternative tablets, monitor arms and computers ;)
Until next time, keep on creating!
Lawrence.

Are you using a Desktop, Laptop/2-in-1 or a tablet to create your art? Would you ever switch?

Desktop, for ever. PC enthusiast (Windows), but also it provides more performance for quite less money. I also do prefer the desktop's flexibility and capabilities. And, I hate to work in small screens. I'd never switch. But a tablet for sketching rough ideas is handy. Absolutely no need it to be an ipad, anything cheaper does the job, for that. Besides, at every studio I've worked at, you get a desktop, a workstation, and quite often, a Cintiq or an Intuos with it. At home for freelancing, for me it's also gotta be a desktop, and with quite table real state for working.

Hi Mr Mann, great video as usuel. On the ergotron website, it says that the MXV arm support weight up to 9,1kg. Given the fact that the 27qhd is 9kg, is it not a bit too weak to support it ? Speaking of cintiq, do you know a way to put a Cintiq Pro 13 to an ergotron arm ? I saw some brand like the one (JoyFactory) you've used in a video with your surface pro some years ago that could do the job but I'm not sure about the strength of it.

The MXV holds the 27QHD well but it is the heaviest tablet I'd put on for sure. With the 27, I'd always make sure there's a little edge of desk to rest it on and keep it totally stable on. It's just such a heavy tablet. That's the same on all arms thoughs. It's more about the set-up. Honestly, I trust the MXV arm with the Wacom. It's still within the weight range. I have a video coming up soon on mounting smaller tablets. Even ones without VESA holes to an Ergotron arm :) stay Subscribed for that and make sure to hit notifications for that.

The Z4 desktop computer is more upgradable because you can upgrade the monitor, the CPU, the GPU, the memory, the storage...but the Zbook is also upgradable to a certain extent since you can still upgrade the memory, the storage, add a monitor just like the desktop counterpart. HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Apple, like to use proprietary parts, so something as simple as a power supply needs to be replaced with an original part. Custome-built computers, like the ones preferred by gamers, use third-party off the shelf parts that are widely accessible.

Sounds like you care about upgrades. Surprised you are using Apple. It's good stuff for sure but almost impossible to use after a few years if you want top of the line equipment. I should know - I was an Apple user for twenty years.

I'm considering switching from the LX to this monitor arm. Is the tablet you used over the weight limit? Wondering how it holds up w heavier screens since the max is 20lbs.
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW 3 жыл бұрын
The weight of the Wacom 27QHD Touch is 19.8 lbs which is right on the limit BUT you have to consider this is a tablet and not a monitor. You do lean on a tablet so you are adding extra weight. I only used this for the video but personally I wouldn't use these as a permanent combination but it was an interesting test. I would probably go with the HX arm. I've got a review of that arm too.

How is your experience with this arm after a year?
@madmax252
@madmax252 2 жыл бұрын
@@nikitakobtsev It works great! Tbh, it's a bit overkill for my setup, I very rarely need to move my monitor around, so I could have done just as well with a less expensive arm. But I'm still very happy with it, build quality is great and it's sturdy and easy to use.
@nikitakobtsev
@nikitakobtsev 2 жыл бұрын
@@madmax252 Thanks for the extended opinion! For my setup this will also be an overkill, haha) But I was offered to buy at a price three times below the market value and I'm considering buying it. Could you tell me if it is possible to move the monitor beyond the table area in the lowest position in height? And how far could it be moved in that direction? For comparison I want to know the size of your monitor
@nikitakobtsev
@nikitakobtsev 2 жыл бұрын
@@madmax252 Today I bought it from a private seller. The arm completely satisfied me! But I expected a little more, given it s MSRP. The tilt adjustment works somehow strangely: as soon as I loosen it literally by half a turn of the screw the monitor immediately drops sharply, as soon as I turn it back the adjustment becomes too tight. It also didn’t work out well to adjust the height adjustment: at some point the hexagon just stopped rotating as if I had reached the limiter! And now the monitor is adjustable, but in the upper position it doesn't hold and in the lower position it is not as easy to adjust as I would like. In addition I cannot understand why almost all manufacturers make the lower knee of the bracket so short and high. This is probably handy for standing setups, but what about an alternative? Otherwise, I just can’t move the monitor beyond the table area, it rests on the knee of the bracket. In general the product does not feel premium, many things are not thought out

Hi Mr Mann, sorry to bother you again with an other question bit I do research for a future purchase of a new computer and I was wondering, for a creative and artistic standpoint, what's the best and more efficient and useful, a xeon processor or an i7-9 processor ? And for the Gpu, a quadro or a 2070-80 ti or titan ? Obviously, it will depend of the range of the Quadro. Knowing that it's for 2d applications like Photoshop and all major Adobe Creative Suite software, Corel Painter, Clip Studio Paint, 2d animation software and also video editing, 3d software like zbrush, Blender, Cinema 4d, etc... Thanks in advance for your time. I enjoy a lot your videos and always very informative.

Hey Lawrence, I wrote a lot of things and then Chrome decided to die just about at the end! Aaaargh! Anyways, I love how practical and useful your videos are, especially with that emphasis on the artistic workflow that you put on the reviews every time. Just priceless! Much better than tech people who are not able to give information from our point of view. My set-up is quite old. Approaching the 5 years mark, my custom built workstation (I bought and assembled everything myself) has an i7 5960X that I have overclocked a tad (from 3.1 to 4.2 GHz), 64 GB DDR4 Quad Channel RAM @3000 MHz. I have a 500 GB NVME M.2 SSD system disk (for lightning fast boots and software loading times), a 480 GB SSD for work in progress work, a 256 GB SSD for scratch/cache of those apps that require it (Photoshop, After Effects, Da Vinci, Fusion and so on and so forth). I built this system with GPU rendering in mind, that's why for the first time in my life I did not go for Xeon processors. Instead I bought 3 NVidia GTX Titan X (12 GB VRAM each), which now are obviously outdated (still kicking arses though, hehehe). I used to have a Wacom Companion 2, though I sold it after a couple of years, due to not getting used enough. Now I am left with a super super old Wacom Intuos 3 pen tablet, which I hope will be replaced once I will be able to afford all the bits I need. I would like to buy a pre-built workstation again (like I did for many years before coming back to custom built), especially if I find something with that beast of Threadripper.

@@MauroSanna I'd be already quite happy with a "mainstream" 3950X.... ! (heck, even a 3990X... indeed, even with a 3700X) But yep, that thing they need to release, yet, the 3990X.... I've seen the benchmarks of the 3960X and 3970X, just when I was trying to recover from the shock of seeing how the 3950X would be like 50 % faster than till the moment quite powerful machines... to realize, these two (actual threadrippers vs 3950X being mainstream) would actually set the bar really much higher. And what is rumored from the 3990X... I don't know if I can believe that. I guess is what the say, that now AMD is competing against itself, but man, does it go fast, as well....! That's amazing for us. Mostly as all the lower high end machines are going to become cheaper, both in intel and AMD. But when you look at the prices, even now that AMD dominates... intel gives you quite less with same money... I've been an intel user all my life, but the thing is quite clear at this moment... The thing is... we're only going to notice from certain power and up, ...sure when using Zbrush for very complex models, or if painting with Rebelle and other very demanding GPU based painter and pretending to paint on a large canvas (but in a large part, that's GPU... I discovered in testings that RAM , dsik and CPU are quite needed there, too). But is super cool to work without limits (not that I would know yet that sensation, hehe) My gosh with your graphic cards configuration, geez. Man, you go for high end, that's clear! Kudos.

hey, thank you for these videos! i'm on the look for the right ergotron arm for me :D can i ask if your current arm lets you tilt the tablet up to 30-60°? i see in your video you stand up and paint a lot, but I'm more of a 2d artist and i actually just stay still and use the keyboard ahah. I basically need an arm that raises the tablet so i don't bend over it if that makes sense? and i was wondering if this arm is the right one. thank you if you take the time to answer, otherwise no worries and have a nice day!

A question about the screen arms you use - they seem to shake slightly when you use them. Doesn't it bother you? Is there a "locked" position where it's more stable?
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW

There is no 'locked' position. Remember that monitor arms are made for monitors and not for drawing tablets. Besides, you don't notice any slight wobble while you are working.

@LAWRENCEcanDRAW
@LAWRENCEcanDRAW 4 жыл бұрын
I personally feel that it is not. You'll always add a little extra weight to the tablet on the tablet when working on the tablet by leaning on it. That can make it wobble. So you need the stronger tablet. You shouldn't be leaning on it because that can damage the screen but most people can't help that. I always advise resting the tablet on the edge of the desk anyway for added stability anyway but the smaller arms just don't cut it if you can't follow these rules. You don't want to spend all this money on a tablet just to put it on an arm that ruins your experience. The LX HD sit stand is the perfect arm for your tablet.
