Stoke Newington boy. I knew him as a kid playing in the Red Lion church street. His dad used to drink in the Albion and became his chaffeur in the 80s . Paid him £100 a week...good money back then.

Funny how non darts players think the bulls eye is the "ultimate hit or highest target" in darts. Its the treble 20 sillies.

I was a big fan of Eric but it's well known that he was a heavy smoker and drinker and also used to live on Curries. I read a newspaper interview once where he said he didn't think he'd reach 40 and when he was 50 said he didn't think he'd reach 60. I also recall Bobby George saying he told Eric to maybe cut down a bit but Eric was having none of it, and he said He wanted to live like that. It's a shame he went at 60 but the lifestyle caught up with him.

The standard of darts in the 80s wasn’t very high. In my opinion John Lowe was the best Player of the 80s. Bristow never hit a 9 dart finish in the world championships and I believe he never hit a 9 darter in any major tournament televised or un-televised. I don’t even think Bristow ever hit a televised 10 darter. Lowe hit the first televised 9 darter. Bristow was an just average player compared to the likes of Phil Taylor, MVG, Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Rob Cross etc

Codswallop.
@judex32263 ай бұрын
@@simonlevett4776 I’m factually right and you know it. Bristow never hit a 9 darter in the world championships or any any televised tournament. The first player to hit a 9 darter in a televised tournament was John Lowe in 1984. Bristow never did it. Lowe won 3 world championships in 79 87 and 93. He was the only player to win in 3 different decades until Phil Taylor did it. So I rank Lowe above Bristow. Though clearly Taylor was in a different league and so is MVG when he was at his peak. Now there’s several players that hit 180s for fun like Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Rob Cross and many of them have hit several televised 9 darters and have consistently have higher averages than Bristow 🎯 I’m not expressing my opinion I’m just stating the facts. Don’t you like facts that go against your opinion?
@roddywilson89113 ай бұрын
@@judex3226maybe your facts are correct but what you fail to mention is that the boards back then were smaller, trebles and doubles were14 percent smaller than today, when the great jocky Wilson was playing back in the day he did a 1001 in 19:darts in an exhibition match according to rod harrington who was there, so the players of today have if easier than the boys back in the eighties, very seldom do you see bounce outs now ,common place back then,
@judex32263 ай бұрын
@@roddywilson8911 Then I was right John Lowe was better than Bristow. As I said Lowe hit the first televised 9 darter in 1984. Paul Lim hit a 9 darter in 1990 at the world championships. The Goat Phil Taylor has hit 180s for fun in the 1990s and he’s hit 11 9 dart finishes in the world championships. None from Bristow. Bristow was not a patch on Taylor 🎯
