RS is full of shit - for soul, playing, mastery of the instrument, multiple genres, influence, longevity.... I could go on, no one touches Clapton - period. I mean how many people soloed guitar on a Beatles track - and wrote with George Harrison regularly - Badge just one example. And speaking of Cream, they effectively invented heavy rock / metal. And R&B / Soul - in the late 60's whilst on tour in America with Cream, producer Ahmet Ertegun dismissed 5 top session guitarists for Aretha Franklin including Bobby Womack who was hot at the time on the back of Sam Cooke and Otis Reading. He called in Eric Clapton from his hotel to complete the session.... cold. Eric has been an incredible influence on rock, blues and R&B music or over 50 years . Anyone who cannot see this needs to read a book and educate themselves beyond KZbin and Alexa.

In 1999 my dad I and were watching this concert on VHS. I was in 3rd grade and after seeing Clapton play I begged my parents to get me a guitar. I wanted one just like Clapton. After a month of begging, my parents got me a $179 Fender Squire (black and white of course like Claptons) 23 years later I'm still playing and tomorrow (6-2-23) I am receiving Eric Claptons signature Blackie guitar. RIP dad and thank you for introducing me to music, specifically this tribute concert.

If you ever get a chance listen to the rehearsal of this song that is on spotify and how different it is (he plays like he is both trying to figure out what key he needs to be in and trying to work out what xactly he is wanting to play). Yes he is one of the goats, but he is also outworks most everyone. It was mindblowing.

@@mauricedorreboom5388 Hey Maurice! I watched the entire concert on TV and felt Eric Clapton's performance of "Don't Think Twice" was entirely beyond anything else that happened during the entire show. His "Don't Think Twice" rendition was, truly, an >inspired< gift to Bob Dylan, in the same vein of genuine inspiration as Hendrix's studio version of "All Along The Watchtower". It would have been extraordinary to be in the front row to witness this...!!! Keep on keepin' on...! ✨👍🥴✨

The late 80’s, early 90’s Clapton was at the very top of his blues guitar playing, as witnessed here. Every note, every fill, every run, the speed, pure perfection. You could see near the end that Steve Cropper and G.E. Smith were in awe of Clapton’s playing., as we all should be.

My dad was no expert. He was not a kind man. He was a fan of music. He procured several cabinet speakers and would ROCK the neighborhood with this song. I remember how excited he was to hear and play this and the look that would overcome him was absolutely tranquil, at a volume that would cause harm. I learned at a very young age, there isn't a maximum volume for some songs.

I remember watching this concert when they did the live TV broadcast. EC was/is my #1 favorite guitarist of all time and I was anxiously awaiting his performance that night. I was watching with a couple of friends who liked Clapton, but weren't huge fans of his. During the later part of this song, when Clapton goes on a tear during his two solos, all I heard was one of my friends quietly and slowly say "HOLY SH*T....". He got two new fans after that song. EC is a legend, no matter what anyone says.

@FoxtrotMike 2 жыл бұрын
@@brentonchattin Exactly. Both may cross musically at some point, but the best thing is that both contributed in different areas. Hendrix was the starting point in experimental guitar, removing the established limits and making noise and distortion something wonderful. Clapton contributed to the blues by being the bridge that led us to it. His voice and musical ability have influenced more musicians than you can think of and he brought a dark area of music to life, transforming it into pure light.

Eric was on fire that night. His son passed away the previous year so he was still in a state. Love Minus Zero was sweet and lyrical, Don't Think Twice had fury, as if chastising himself. Twice Booker T on organ played in the wrong key causing Eric too smile and smirk. But he was not gonna be derailed that night. He was on fire and GE Smith and the band and the crowd knew it. This delivery blew the roof off the Garden.
