My top 3: 1st: Tokyo (2009) 2nd: Tokyo (1988) 3rd: BBC TV (1977) In that BBC clip, Clapton was drunk af and he still could play amazingly well. When I'm drunk I can't even hit an Em or an Am! xD

This is a great video. Something about I shot the sheriff just brings out the best in Clapton. An absolute joy to watch.

For me the best version of this song will always be live at Bonner Springs, 1985. The entire Behind The Sun tour was incredible and filled with energy. The '83-88 period will always be when I believe Clapton was at his best creatively, vocally, and musically. Those live shows during that time are a testament to this.

The most amazing about these solos is that he is playing with his eyes closed. He is not looking once at the guitar. That was I find absolutely amazing

Tokyo 2009 the best for me , beautiful phrasing ,changing sounds all the time , and the Drummer !!!! My God he would drive any guitar player to its best !!! Very heavy on the drums and Eric felt it !!!

For me, his Hyde Park version (1997) is up there as possibly the best. The way Steve Gadd plays ever so slightly behind the beat, and Eric just goes into the stratosphere with his soloing. Also a big mention to the 24 Nights version where at the start he plays a harmonised duet with Phil Palmer. Sooo tasty!!

Hype Park solo is a bit short to have a nice progression, plus the band anticipating the end of the song made the end of the solo a bit strange. A nice one, but not as strong as the ones in this medley.

Has anyone figured out what the numbers in the bottom left mean?
@nowandthenelated2 жыл бұрын
I was just counting how many times he goes through the chord progression. I thought it was interesting that sometimes the solo was a long one, and other times shorter. And I wondered how consistent he was about when he changes intensity. So I counted them to help me compare. When I made this video I had pretty much just discovered Eric Clapton, even though he'd been playing about as long as I'd been alive. Everything fascinated me.
@jacobagee13432 жыл бұрын
@@nowandthenelated that makes sense and indeed is interesting… I’ve listened to hundreds of hours of this song and never really paid attention to how long he goes in some versions bs others. Good stuff!
