The chord arrangement here is one of those that really lends to heart felt soloing that can go on and on and on. Another one like that is "Old Love", I once went on for 20 minutes to that tune and it still didn't get old. Some progressions just bring things out in a person.

Was it the "unhappily-married working musician" lyrics that did it, or just the fact that, like every guitarist working off that old four-chord rudiment, he's got Toussaint L'Ouverture to compete with?
Kamil Stachowski is an avid Eric Clapton cover artist on here on KZbin. He plays note for note this song and all of his other ones. He also writes out the tabs, including for this song. Check him out!

This is one of my favorite Clapton songs. I can practically feel his pain when I hear it. As for the rest of the album though: not his greatest work. Like many others, he fell victim to one of history's worse ( with a few exceptions) decades of music- the 80's. Fortunately he later realized that and went back to his Blues roots.

The song is great, but ohh that '80's production is just nasty and that synth..uggh! and yes it is one of his finest solo's, reminds me of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Weird ending, you expect it to fade out...

Agreed, this is a classic Clapton solo, it's just an appalling song with appalling production. Would be interesting to have it re-produced by someone that understands Clapton's 60's 70's roots, you'd probably end up with a great song instead of this plastic, microwaved version of blues
