One of the beautiful things about these two great, great, musicians playing together is how much they enjoy it. They seem like brothers: brothers who really love each other.

And who isn't? I think they have a mutual admiration relationship. In my own personal, correct opinion Clapton and Knopfler are the two greatest living guitarists.

I first heard them play this together at the Royal Albert Hall, around the same time as this recording. Absolutely blew me away - along with the ENTIRE audience!. First MK played the George Harrison part (as in this version) whilst Clapton recreated his own solo .......... then the BONUS !! EC plays the Harrison part and Mark picks up the second solo! OMG - you could feel the entire Albert Hall LIFT! Just stunning - and it seemed to go on for AGES!! One of the greatest musical experiences of my life. Some American guy behind me - with tears absolutely streaming down his face - tapped me on the shoulder and asked "What the hell was that song?" The applause just went on FOR EVER ! [Superb line-up with Nathan East, Greg Fillinganes, Ray Cooper and others behind Eric & Mark. Such a huge pity there doesn't seem to be a recording of that particular night!!]

I always think of George Harrison when I hear this song. His influence is so strong on this song.
@PiagaBiblica895 жыл бұрын
Well he actually was part of the writing process, and played rhythm guitar on the original recording (credited as "L'Angelo Misterioso"). So it's much more than just influence, my friend :)

@@pabloperez4063 I love Clapton and Mark K but them together does not work. They have two different styles that don't work together. It is like oil and water. It is like Mark is playing a Dire Straits version while Eric is trying to play the Eric version. I literally cringe when I hear them play together. Maybe non guitarists like this version as I am reading a lot of people saying they love it. Maybe they can't hear a song like someone that actually plays. Eric should have fired Mark before they toured. LOL.

STRATMAN firdaus Personaly I think Clapton's solo here was much better, Knopfler seemed to just throw in some of his licks and mash them up in a solo with no structure. This was not his best year for sure.
