Sweet lineup to say the least with Chris Stainton (keyboards), Tim Carmon (keyboards), Willie Weeks (bass), Steve Jordan (drums), Sharon White (backing vocals) and Michelle John (backing vocals). @@FrogUncle264 Indeed, especially in Trucks's case. I've always felt that nobody could do blues on a Stratocaster like Eric Clapton; but Derek on slide is _lights. out._ He and Susan Tedeschi together are a marvel. Then again Derek's been a stage guitarist since he was like 12, so he's had a zillion opportunities to hone his craft. Derek always HAS been humble. He is not a stage hound and is more than happy to play 2nd fiddle to his wife, who is a generational talent in her own right. Just a quiet family man who happens to play guitar for a living.

Yipper, exactly what I've been saying. It seems almost sacrilegious to compare Blind Faith's original to this rendition since the tone, Clapton's choice of acoustic, and Ginger Baker's influence on the original was so different. Not better or worse, just different. But this one could easily have _been_ the original and been just as good if not more memorable.

And the absolute best rendition _like ever_ by the two players responsible for the song. This is seriously as good as it gets. What a lineup, and every single performer on the stage was locked in and there wasn't a blemish throughout the entire piece. Winwood and Clapton were in a mind meld, each taking a back seat during the other's solo, and then as a duo neither one out-shown the other; _perfect_ technique and timing. At the end you could see the look on their faces like "Yeh, nailed it." They most certainly did that night.

The reason was that Steve's mother was the choir director for his Presbyterian church in Birmingham, England. Look at the way Winwood turned and nodded to Clapton at 6:40 --- unsaid known reality - "It don't get better than this, brother!"

From what I have read about this song.. in the beginning Eric Clapton took Steve winwood under his wings and showed him a lot. They said at some point they would form a band and play together but Eric had to go on tour in the US and Steve had to get busy with his band. When Eric got done he went back to UK exhausted and depressed and he just could not pick himself up from all the partying. He did not return to his music for sometime and Steve wrote this as a tribute song to Eric Clapton. I think, I could be wrong but I think this was when Clapton was struggling with a addiction.H

Jamal, Around 4:12 you remark about how so many instruments onstage together still sound great. I'm a bassist, and it's important to "leave sonic space" when playing, especially with a busy stage. Great song, well played here by "lotsa folks" and very, very pretty Thank you for posting this reaction video. The supergroup Blind Faith (Eric Clapton, formerly from Cream, as guitarist: Steve Winwood, formerly from Traffic, as organist and singer; Ginger Baker, formerly from Cream, as drummer; and an excellent bassist/violinist) had a short U.S. tour (14 concerts or so) in July and August of 1969, and my then-17-year-old brother and my then-almost-14-year-old self were fortunate to win tickets to see Blind Faith from a radio contest held by the FM-100 rock radio station in our hometown of Memphis - the tickets were to the tour stop which was geographically "closest" to Memphis, which was the Sunday August 3, 1969 concert at Kiel Auditorium, in St. Louis. My brother and I flew up from Memphis on Delta Airlines, saw a (then-brand-new, premiering) film "2001: A Space Odyssey" in the afternoon, saw the wonderful Blind Faith concert at Kiel, that evening; however, it had some unexpectedly lengthy encores; this caused us to miss our late-night ticketed Delta return flight to Memphis. We tried to hitch-hike (as was mostly quite safe and quite customary, in those years) on the nearby I-55 expressway for a ride to the airport in St. Louis, to call our parents and ask them to wire funds for a new return-flight airline ticket; however, co-incidentally, a trucker who gave us a ride was going not to or near that airport, but was going straight through (in the wee hours of the morning of Monday the 4th) to a truck stop in West Memphis, Arkansas, before heading on I-40 south to Little Rock in Arkansas; of course, from our perspectives, it was a thousand times better and cheaper to do this, than to have gone to the St. Louis airport. We could then call our parents in Memphis from the truck stop in West Memphis, and explain the situation (there were no cellphones back then which would have allowed for an earlier call), and they were so delighted that we were both still alive and well that my father (a self-employed artist) left his office and picked us both us from the truck stop in West Memphis -- with NO questions asked !!!!! GREAT Memories -- except for the worries of my parents !!!!!
