One Artist for you to React to: TOMMY BOLIN. (Tommy, sadly passed away in 1976, at the Very Early Age of 25. Just as he was on the verge of becoming Big. Stupidly, He OD'ed!! :( :( I was 17, he was My 1st Guitar Hero, and My Entire World was Rocked Hard for A Long While. Check Out: My Favorite: "Wild Dogs" and "Dreamer" both off of his 1st solo CD "Teaser". Also, "Post Toastee" from his 2nd/last solo album: "Private Eyes". IF you are Into/Like Great Dynamics, then "Dreamer" is a song for you. From sparse, mellow and pretty to Rocking Out in a beat. Then-Boom- Right back to sweet and mellow. On "Post Toastee" Everyone in the band gets to Show Off A Little! :) I would suggest the studio versions/audio of all 3.

I spent 23 years in the music business, Steve is one of the nicest musicians I ever worked for. His wife, Eugenie is from Nashville and when she and Steve get in an animated conversation, the opposing accents are hilarious. Steve is the only musician who ever hand delivered my end of tour bonus in person. (Usually it's the tour accountant) I worked Steve's HI LIFE tour in the US and Canada. He was and is a class act.

I love a lot of older guys that their voice changes quality, maybe more gravel, more likely to go to a falsetto instead of the high they once hit, but it still is wonderful and elegant. I wish you' cover more of the Blind Faith album with Clapton this originally came out on. You still haven't heard the rockier songs on that album with Clapton on electric guitar - "Had To Cry Today" - just when you think the song is over, they go into this double lead guitar played through Leslie speaker ending, "Presence of The Lord" has a surprising switch to a wah wah riff half way through, "Sea Of Joy" starts out similarly to this song, but is electric, and "Do What You Like" is Ginger Baker's chance to play a drum solo in 5/4 time. They only made the one album, so if you like Winwood, it's worth checking out even if you don't react to it.

That's Steve on his farm in Oxfordshire, where he says he's semi-retired from music. Although originally from Birmingham in the English Midlands, Winwood went south to the area known as the Thames Valley. He originally had a cottage where Traffic went to rehearse for their first album, which set a trend for bands "getting it together in the country". It wasn't as idyllic and isolated as they had pictured because the music press found out and descended on the rural village, much to the annoyance of the residents. The idea of a country retreat is the basis of the Traffic song Berkshire Poppies, although the village they went to is no longer in the county of Berkshire but, due to boundary changes, has been in Oxfordshire since 1974.
