I’m honestly surprised more of Coates hasn’t been transcribed for wind ensemble/concert band. It would fit well in that medium, and probably be performed more.

Back in the late 70s and early 80s, Coates's marches used to be played over the PA system at London's Waterloo Station in the morning. It really helped to get me to work in a good mood :-)

How clever to use the 'Man About Town' as the *slow* movement. Elegant, rather than louche, I hope. Tenor sax and vibraphone work beautifully. Thank you so much for these Coates uploads. I have seen full scores of a few of his works in libraries, but they are rare, I think.

@@csababekesi-marton2393 Thank you. I have known and loved Coates's music for the past sixty years. And still there is something new to discover in it.

@@webrarian I've heard some of Coates' pieces last year but nothing of him before. I bow down before the talent and the mastery of this light-hearted genius. These 3 movements are gems of monothematic development and superb orchestration, I've already learned a lot from these uploadings of Meester Bartje.

What a master tune smith Eric Coates was. His orchestrations are always superb. Being an orchestral player himself he understood the orchestra so well
