How are they wired? I see only 2 knobs. Is there anything else special in the guitar?

I guessed right that the poles are A4. The modern stagger is a good idea. Assuming 42AWG wire, the pickups are fairly high inductance for a Strat. More in the Tele bridge range. I'd use a low capacitance cable to keep the resonance peak level down and above the harsh 3-3.5kHz range. I guess it makes sense to have fairly flat/smooth pickups with his very dynamic clean sound.

a lot of his sound comes from having really low action to the point that the strings are choked and limit the max dynamic range
