Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover Live Intros

I was asked to look at these intros, so the first one is the one that I like the most, and that's from 1990 at the Bottomline NYC. I get the feeling that these intros are quite improvised, as they're all quite distinctly different.

Thanks a lot for your videos! I think EJ's Cliffs of Dover are one of the most emotional combination of chords and melodies! And you did an amazing job explaining what there's behind! For me one of the best intro is from the 01/30/2020 concert and absolutely from the 2006 show! This could be a really interesting series! Thank you so much for your work and for your time making up these videos

This is fantastic! Love your insights into EJ's thought process, and your own improvisations when you discuss the chords/keys that work over the drone were beautiful! I think EJ used the "hold" feature on a Boss DD-2 or DD-3 to create his rhythmic drone sound, but I agree he likely would've used a "freeze" if it had existed at the time. Thanks!!

@@johnnathancordy I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere (I know he's better known for using the EHX Memory Man). But the Boss DD-3 has a hold feature which is like a 2-second looper, produces exactly the sort of repeating drone heard on this intro. I'll double-check on the Boss thing.

This is just outstanding, the touch, the tone.. everything is top notch. I wonder if you could be able to replicate the freeze effect on the AxeFx, the clean tone on the EJ tone is unreal and this would be the icing on the cake! Keep it up, I love your videos!
