Luca Bovo. I have collected since 1968 when I was 18 years old. Even though many artists are underrated Eric Johnson is highly underrated just like you said. And it is very sad because he has a style that no one has plus he writes 98% of his own music. There is only one Eric Johnson from Texas and he is a master guitarist.

@@greattunesking1 I always thought the problem was that EJ was so good. So technical. So perfect. That he was intangible to most guitar players. Unrelateable because they had almost no hope of emulating. Still this day I've heard nobody play as clean and powerful and technical and LOUD as EJ in the 80s and 90s era.

@@MrMarcoAlvarado Anytime you see a record label change it means in most cases the artist changed the style of his music. In the case of "Seven Worlds" it had nothing to do with his style changing. ARK 21 records could have been chosen for a few different reasons. However, It is a horrible shame that Eric had to wait 20 years for Seven Worlds to be released. I could not agree with you more.

Eric is clearly coming out of his fusion stage and I can hearThe Dixie Dregs and John McLaughlin in this time but most importantly he worked at it until it became his style and he is as recognizable as Jeff Beck Clapton or Hendrix and the scope of his influences are so broad and far reaching it is part of his uniqueness he is like a great collage of all guitar music

It sure took took him time to get where he belonged. Late 30s. Couldn't even release this, though it was recorded in 1976-78. That must have been frustrating in the extreme. Better than now. Nobody would even notice an Eric Johnson. Music industry is fucked beyond repair.

Nice versions of Zap & Emerald Eyes, but gotta say I think the Tones versions are better. Not only the sound quality, but with Zap the groove seem a funkier, and the mix is far better too on both tunes. I realize with a decade between recordings technology has changed, and can provide a smoother sound, plus maturity in ones abilities, and the sound they want to achieve comes into play.

Zippy the Pinhead. I happen to agree with you being a fan for 21 years now of Eric. You just can't beat "Zap" "Emerald Eyes" "Trail Of Tears." I mean the whole "Tones" album vinyl or CD quality is absolutely nothing short of fantastic. If I was asked, what do you think about "Ah Via Musicom."? I would simply say that it is by far one of Eric's most underrated albums of all time. Every single song is a gem.

Has anyone noticed that some of these songs show up on "Tones"? Songs Like "Zap" and "Emerald Eyes" but even though they are the same songs the versions are different just a bit. And even though I bought "Tones" in 1988 and fell totally in love with Eric's music I could never understand why in 1998 I found "Seven Worlds" and even though it had two songs from "Tones" however, The other eight songs on "Seven Worlds" were only found on "Seven Words"? If any other fan of Eric's can tell me if the songs on "Tones and Seven Worlds" were recorded around the same time or, Which came first I would deeply appreciate it very much. Thanks

Seven worlds was recorded between '76 and '78 intended to be for Eric's first solo album after he disbanded with the Electromagnets. After many label disputes and complications, it was finally released in 1998, and though Tones 'officially' came earlier in '86, Seven Worlds tracks were recorded a decade earlier. I'd say that Eric thought Seven Worlds would never be released due to the complications, so he rerecorded some of the songs for tones, or it could simply just be wanting to give new life to those songs with obviously more skill and more advanced recording technologies, but I could be wrong. Hope that helps!

@@sgeggbub1008. Your last 3 words were, Hope that helps! You have no idea just how much you have helped me out trying to figure this out. However, I think you have figured it out perfectly. It makes perfect sense. Now I understand why "Seven Worlds" is so expensive when I see it for sale. Being his first recording right after "Electromagnets" and before "Tones" is one reason and the second reason is "Seven Worlds" is totally Out-Of-Print now. I don't know who was behind getting "Seven Worlds" released but whoever it was did a wonderful thing when it comes to the many who love Eric and his music. I deeply appreciate your help more than you can imagine. Thanks so much.

As I listened, to these remarkable pieces of music, I became relaxed and had some deep thoughts, which I only bring-up once and a while, in such a writing as this: The ARTILLERY reference, in these songs, reminded me of how peace became secured and constitued, then uniformly defined, so practical-peace could be expalined and practiced by humanity. Noah practiced and listened to God, about a flood. Only Noah and his family survived the flood. The Governing leadership (decendents of Noah) "religously" practiced life and sought the guidance of God, as each child of Noah formed there respective nations. Government leaders of all forms of Government do follow God. Government has to be formed to make it possible to establsih and schedule Perimeter guards, who guarded borders, in order to keep wild animals from eating people; By securing the perimeters, a peaceful land became secured where peacefull behaviors could occur (a way of life could peacefully occur). Also, a Worship bulding could be built and the chaplain not get killed by a wild bear. Humanity grew to "religously" practice different forms of governing, and the people formed different nations (Syria, Jordan, Egypt, etc.). Further, humanity grew to have different beliefs about who the Massiah is; Humanity, then, formed different places of Worship (Synogogues, Churches, Synods, etc.). Government upheld GOD before people learned to reason to form ways of Worship (there was no set way of worship and there were no Worship buildings where people could go to worship). Yes, the Soviet Union also has Worhip Synods, soviets do know that all existence is a BEING whom they recognize (a BEING whom we call GOD in American English).

I think his main problem is the lack of strength in his voice, due either to small lung capacity (being slim) and/or not breathing right. he definitely has the ear for music and appreciation of tone, but doesn’t seem to have the technical ability/technique to project it (and obviously hasn’t focused on singing as much as on guitar). With more air behind the notes, you can do more with them. Given the tens of thousands of hours he obviously spent developing his guitar chops, there were only so many hours left over to develop his singing, and still have some semblance of a life. That’s how I look at it. I wish his voice was a bit stronger also, but knowing the joy of singing, I can’t begrudge him wanting to express himself vocally also (as Hendrix, Clapton and others have done). Hmmm… I wonder if drugs and drinking enhance some musician’s voices?? 🤔😁
