Dude, I just ordered your signed CD after already listening to your album more than twenty times for free for the past two weeks, as a matter of fact, I'm listening to it as I write this reply. Your stuff is so good, I started to feel guilty for not paying for it. When I scrape up some more dough I going to buy the other three and anything you record in the future. I haven't listened to an instrumental record this much since Yngwie's first album, Rising Force in 84, and yes I'm over fifty and have been trying to learn how to play the guitar off and on for over 30 years. Because of you, I've started playing again with more seriousness. My dream of one day becoming a rock star has long since past, but that's OK I don't care about that stuff anymore I have a day job, I only care about the art of guitar, and what you do is pure art. There are a lot of good players out there, but few write good music like you. You don't over play with tricks and technic. You play just enough and not too much, you play the guitar for the music, you don't write music for the guitar. So many players (I won't mention names and some are older than me) don't seem to know the difference, but you do and to know this so early in your career is amazing, I can't wait to hear what you record next.

Tears are probably your friend right now; alcohol, drugs, and addictive behaviours are probably less helpful. There's lots of anger, fear, and ultimately sadness to feel at the end of a relationship. Feelings can be repressed so that they come up stronger and at inopportune times, or they can be felt when they come up. In my experience of repressing feelings for decades, I can with authority say that repression did not help nearly as much as dealing with the emotions directly. Your mileage may of course vary(though I doubt it). Good luck, Alan Tomlinson

This is a timeless album. Moving, cinematic songs, excellent production quality, and outstanding guitar tone. Melodic lines that stick in your head. And unlike a lot of virtuosos, Nick doesn't get lost trying to show off his chops, though he has them. Shreddy guitar is cool, but you can't express much emotion playing as many notes as possible. That's why we love songs and why we bond with them--because they evoke our emotions.

@@nickjohnstonmusic IMO, Very true, Some will say that it is all subjective, and it is. But I think most emotions are provoked through Gilmour/Johnston type phrasing. Other people will say their emotions are provoked through shredding. The beauty of music is the interpretation through expressing individuality and being able to feel how you feel through just that.,

KZbin is a massive treasure trove of beautiful gems like this masterpiece. It restores your faith in the future of music, especially when you consider the unmitigated drivel that passes for 'music' that gets pumped out over the airwaves these days. Modern mainstream music is 99% unlistenable, vapid, soulless, talentless garbage that deserves to be forgotten. This, on the other hand, is superb. Thank you, Mr Johnson!

Nick Johnson as a guitarist is similar to a master photographer taking pictures of puppies for everyone to enjoy, he could easily make music for the few but instead puts things together that most people can enjoy.

This is a phenomenal recording, I will buy this on amazon and recommend it to musicians who value real music, so you get some tiny fraction of the money you deserve for this.. It literally made me love instrumental fusion again, it also makes me feel like my guitar chops are pure shite and I should burn barrel all my guitars and amps... Nick, you love that flat five chord change! Like B major to F major. or Em to Bb major. It's more like a movie soundtrack with legitimate guitar added. Nice stuff!

I also love flat five chord changes. Do you know any other music that frequently uses this chord change?

My guess is this is in harmony of the melodic minor

I'm almost embarrassed to have only just discovered you now. I've been listening to this album over an over for the past few days and have been super inspired by your playing and songwriting. I love strong melody-driven instrumental guitar music and this is some of the best I've ever heard. It's up there with Satriani or Timmons. Keep doing what you do!

Since i've discovered this album a couple of years ago, I haven't stop listening to it since. No shame at all. I'm a guitar player and I fucking love it since the day I found it. Changed the way I wanted to play.

hehe, a legato/hybrid picked masterful run... I remember hearing that Nick barely alternate picks at all... but the notes are still there! Can't argue with neoclassical!

I would have thought "Neo-Classical!" and left it there. But yeah, gotta admit that's a hat tip to the leather clad, portly guitar god! ☺️

I've been trying to figure out why I like this sound so much and why it's so unique. I'm not sure if he meant to do this, but a big reason why Beethoven was considered such a genius is because he would use 1 melody throughout an entire composition and just use different iterations of that same melody to add complexity and progress through the song. I hear a lot of that in this album and you don't hear that as much in progressive music as a lot of songs are the opposite: tons of different melodies in a single song. It's a breath of fresh air and I hope he adds that in his future albums.

There is good prog. rock and bad prog.rock, the secret is not to over play no matter the good you think/you are, complex simplicity is beautiful! I think Joe Satriani is a master guitar player in the "simple complex" style, and Nick is doing a great job in the same class.
@samh15893 жыл бұрын
It might be something to do with the tone not dripping in gain like a lot of shreddies which compresses everything in exchange for dynamics. His sounds are very revealing that shows very subtle nuances and it's controlled masterfully. Doesn't hurt that it is well composed

@@M.S-Music You hit the nail on the head. There's a myriad of artists who have have the technical proficiency to do what these guys do, but they lack the tastefulness of understanding what notes to hit, and when.

@@InuranusBrokoff I recently saw an interview with Satriani where he stated that he always plays for the song rather than for himself.. Its on Rick Beato´s channel a very good interview. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4rHnpiiop50eq8

Merci Monsieur
