I had the privilege of seeing him play two times at Myskyns in Charleston, SC in the 80's while I was in the Navy. His three piece band was flawless. It's insane how talented he is at his craft...and he always seems most humble about it.

It's played on DOUBLE DROP D TUNING top E is dropped to d . And bottom e is dropped to d. THEN PRACTICR FOR 40 YRS. LOL
