One of my earliest memories as a Philadelphia sports fan was the court decision sending Lindros to the Flyers. I was seven years old, and had no idea what the arbitration was about or even meant. But I remember listening to the decision outside of the doctors office on the radio in my mother's Bronco II, with the air conditioning blasting as it was the middle of summer. My mother, who is one of the biggest influences on my love for Philly sports, refused to go into the doctors until after the decision came down haha. My father took me to my first ever professional sporting event the upcoming season (flyers vs. flames) the flyers won, and I became a die hard hockey fan, and Philly shorts fan, for life after that game. I obsessed about the legion of doom, and adored that team. The one thing about lindros that always seemed to work against him his whole career was his size. Yeah, he was a massive, imposing guy, especially on skates. But he took hits that normally would've been called had he not been such a physically big player. I'm not saying that's why he had so many concussions, the guy didn't skate with his head up, but the hits he took would've been called had he been the size of a guy like Gretzky. I am sure I'm being biased because like I said, I was seven, and the perfect age to fall head over heels with such an amazing spectacle of a sport, and have so many amazing memories, as well as disappointing ones, of that era of the Flyers. Fantastic video, and you've got yourself a new subscriber, can't wait to watch the rest of your videos!

Haha your mom's hilarious, although I might've done the same! I was around the same age as you were when Lindros was in Philly, and I remember vividly in the playoffs, he was so intimidating. My Canucks didn't make it very far by that time and I was really just a neutral, but my goodness, I was scared for the other team lol. I miss those days as a carefree kid!

@@KetaProductions haha I appreciate the reply, although, it being Philly (more accurately southern NJ), I wouldn't have been the least bit surprised if the doctor had the court decision on the radio in his office too haha. That was a fun time to be a young hockey fan, because enforcers and bench clearing fights were still a thing, yet you were seeing fantastic skilled skaters and accurate shooters around the whole league. Lindros was all of those things in one player, and it was so much fun watching him and LeClair and Renberg play on that line together. Plus, the NHL franchise from EA Sports added to the fandom. My sega got such a workout in those days haha, and a few controllers got busted out of frustration as well (damn older brothers having no mercy on me haha)

Yeah haha. Some of the more skilled players today might find it tough to survive in those days. Would've been interesting to see how they adapt. The game that got me into hockey was NHL 94. Going behind the net and doing the wrap-around glitch where the goalie gets stuck, it was so much fun exploiting it haha. But I never was able to get Linden and Bure on the same line. That was the real tragedy 😭

@@KetaProductions haha oh yeah, I know that glitch well, and as much as I loved playing as the flyers, if I remember correctly, the black hawks were an insanely stacked team that year.. or maybe it was NHL 95.. regardless, what a fun time to be a young NHL fan!

My favorite player of all time even though I'm a little bit older. His style of play was amazing,in the age of primadonna players who didn't like being hit,he welcomed it and if there was a problem he didnt need a "enforcer" to even things out...he would enforce himself and generally punish anyone who dared take a run at him,by dropping the gloves and squaring up anyone. He had soft hands when handling the puck,a superb passer and a devastating snapshot. Whe you combine all these tools that he possessed, he basically was a living version of the type of hockey player you would build if you were playing one of the hockey video games in which you could build your own player and give the player certain points for various skills you wanted the player to have.....Lindros would have had 100% when giving out those points for the different skills. There will never be another player like Lindros and it was a honor to watch him play.

Lindros was 4th fastest to 400 points. 5th to 500 & 6th to 600. 600 points is more than enough to make your mark. Having a PPG that was beaten only by a handful of players, while playing in the dead puck era says it all. Lindros is criminally underrated because sports talk only cares about story book careers, not the best players.

Legion Of Doom line was amazing. Its a shame people forget how good Mikael Renberg was. He was a great player that unfortunately got hit by the injury bug first before Lindros & LeClair. Although Renberg never hit 40 goals in a season he *was* that talented. His rookie year he had 38 goals & 82 points (basically 40 goals). His 2nd year the Legion Of Doom formed and he had 26 goals & 57 points in a lockout shortened 48 game season (thats pretty much a 50 goal 100 point season). His 3rd year he had 21 goals at the midpoint of the season (again on pace for 40+) and got the first of many groin injuries/complications. Renberg returned for his 4th year in Philly but he'd never be the same. He struggled through basically a full season but had his worst year to that point despite helping the Flyers reach the Stanley Cup Finals. (77gp, 22G 37A 59P). He was hurt, the coach kept moving him around each line combo til the GM traded him in the offseason People often forget that the 97 Flyers cup finalists didnt really have the Legion Of Doom anymore. Sure Renberg was on the team but the coach would only put him with Lindros during the final minutes of a game looking for magic. It made no sense. Lindros & LeClair were instead playing with a rookie that couldnt hit double digits for goals. Anyway I'm a little off topic but if anyone gets a chance to watch old Flyers games with prime Mikael Renberg in 1993-94 through 1995-96 youll see he was an exciting player. Injuries shortened the careers of all three LOD players, Renberg was just the first to fall. Great player though.

Lindros was a force of nature and an extremely entertaining player to watch. His many off-ice controversies often polarized fans into 'for' and 'against' camps, which only made him more of a draw. As a Wings fan, it was such a thrill to see the 'Legion of Doom' dispatched in four games in the '96 Stanley Cup Finals- Lindros was the ultimate adversary and the guy to beat at that time which lent a lot of drama to that series. He was a big, bad wolf, but who wasn't happy to see him represent Canada during the Canada Cup or the Olympics? Looking back, he caught a lot of heat for looking out for his own interests and a lot of the blame for this at the beginning of his career was put on his parents. That took a lot of confidence and b*lls to sit out his rookie season- the NHL machine didn't like that but he stuck to his guns. So was he a spoiled brat and a prima donna or a guy who could say 'no' to the man? This divided a lot of people. I feel that Bobby Clarke's criticism of Lindros for being too weak and not putting himself on the line was unfounded after the number of concussions he had suffered while battling for the Flyers. I respect him for setting down personal boundaries so that people like Clarke and others within the corporate borg system couldn't bully or mock him into doing something that he might not have walked away from. Seeing Lindros put on that Nords jersey on that show in QC really was a kind of closure after all those years and I know that a lot of Nordique fans and Quebecers appreciated the gesture. Thanks for the great tribute to a great player!

Peter Forsberg NHL PPG 1994-2011 1.250 QUE/COL 1994-2004 PPG 1.278 Eric Lindros 1992-2007 NHL PPG 1.138 PHI 1992-2000 PPG 1.356 PHI/NYR PPG 1992-2002 1.312 Bobby Clarke PHI 1969-1984 PPG 1.058 1971-1980 PPG 1.190 While Bobby Clarke is considered the best player ever to don the orange and black jersey and in his nine year prime, he was arguably the best player in hockey second only to the great Bobby Orr in the 1970's. Fast forward to the 1990's and in the 8-year period from 1992 to 2000, Lindros despite the injuries and concussions, was obviously a better player if you want to consider the PPG average. Yes Lindros didn't have a decent goaltender, and the defense was shaky at best, but as a player, LIndros was just a better player during his prime than even Forsberg despite Forsberg winning two Stanley Cups and Forsberg having more success in the international competitions than Lindros, which is another topic. In the NHL Lindros according to the PPG especially during his prime years in PHI had 1.356 PPG and even with the NYR still was able to maintain his PPG to 1.312. It was later in his career when the PPG average shifted downward and even then he still maintains an overall NHL PPG average of 1.138. While it's not higher than Forsberg's average, it's still higher than Clarke's, who had more help with Bernie Parent in the net, and the most feared goon squad during their time (Schultz, Kelly, Crisp, and Dupont). All I'm saying is that had Lindros been mostly healthy and had Lindros had a better goaltender and even enforcers, I'm pretty sure he would've had a much higher PPG average. As of this writing, only Gretzky, Lemieux, Bossy, Orr had higher PPG average than Lindros and even the new kid from EDM, McDavid. Once again, Clarke may be considered the best player on the Flyers, but during his time on the ice, Lindros was better in his eight years with PHI than Clarke was during his prime from 1971-1980 and especially in his career!!!

@@KetaProductions With or without Forsberg (they both played the same positions, BTW), Lindros was still one of the best during his time and he could've been better had he had a better goaltender (Hextall was out of his prime and Snow was garbage), and even enforcers because Lindros can't fight all his fights, he should've primarily been a scorer, then an enforcer and GM Clarke never facilitated that at all due to jealousy. BTW, Lindros had 11 hat tricks for the Flyers while Clarke only had 5 througout his entire career with the Flyers. Plus I'm not sure why Renberg faltered with the Flyers. He had a lot of potential to fully complement Lindros and Leclair and there's more verification that if the Flyers medical staff treated Lindros like garbage, I'm pretty sure Clarke pushed the buttons and didn't give any medical treatment to Renberg as well just to uphold his legacy and the 1970's. I'm just another long suffering fan who just wants to see his favorite hockey team lift the cup and 45 years later, Flyers fans are still in a major drought while Eagles and Phillies fans get a chance to see their teams win a championship!
