As I come to terms with my arthritis and look for simpler pieces to play - I heard you play this Prelude No17 and remember thinking how right they were to give you the Leeds Competition award in 2018. Congratulations in all you have achieved since then. I will opt to try my hands at this one. Thanks to TVP for sharing all your U Tube videos...they know a good Chopin exponent when they hear one!

The deceptive simplicity of pieces like this - mechanically (i.e. hitting the right keys) not difficult but to hit them in the right way - now that's a different matter! Eric does a wonderful job of making the melody sing! I'm a definite convert to his playing :-D

Just to compare with Rubenstein's savage performance (although I love his forte, as they're marked) left-hand Ab at the end), Lu's here is much more Musical and Rapturous. Pletnev's is, too, one of the best.

Well, yes, but a fairly minor one. There is a more serious double hit at 1:57. He smiled after he made it if you watch... The guy is human after all, and the piece has a lot of notes in it ! (although that bit is actually fairly easy, but when you are stretching for the maximum emotional timing you can lose accuracy). The performance as a whole is still way better than many other more accurate ones for me...
