Nothing like this on TV today. We were so lucky to have the genius of Eric Morecambe. I remember seeing this as my Grandma loved sport and was probably waiting for the wrestling.

I remember sitting crossed legged in front of the tv watching this when I was 7 !! The crew laughing was brilliant because you never usually saw or heard them. It was like magic to hear them 😆

My Dad did the paper bag trick - I just couldn't work-out how he did it, drove me mad! One day I suddenly clicked how it was done. Talk about a revelation!

It reminds me of the shows Kenny Everett did at Thames, with no audience and just the laughter of the crew. Always sounds like a group of mates getting together, sounds much better than the sound of a large audience.

I can only concur with other people. Eric was a genius - a genuine star. The way the word "star" is bandied about these days for morons who have appeared on reality shows is an insult. I would gladly trade all the technology of today just to go back to those golden years of television entertainment.

The night before, good friends Eric & Dickie were drinking in Dickies house. The next day, DD went to WoS & Eric asked if he could come, I think M & W were still with the BBC but sadly not for long.

I think I’m right in saying that their final show for the BBC was broadcast the following night and in 1978 they joined ITV (although I could be wrong)
@johnking51743 жыл бұрын
@@That_Random_Bloke Morecambe and Wise BBC contract was due to end after their 1977 Christmas show aired on BBC One. BBC thought they would renew in Jan 1978 with the BBC, but had been in talks with Thames Television since November 1977, and a deal was agreed in principle with Thames by early December 1977, but they said nothing to the BBC management in case it spoilt their Christmas show. This appearance by Eric on World of Sport was supposed to be a little sign to the BBC that their days with the beeb were numbered, and it would be all change in 1978. In Jan 1978 the official deal with Thames was signed and announced, much to the BBC shock.
@yellowbelly062 жыл бұрын
@@johnking5174 This had more to do with Morecambe’s personal friendship with Davies than anything else and the appearance was totally unscheduled, being formulated the night before over drinks and cleared with the producers on the day of transmission. The talks were with Thames and done in total secrecy; it is highly unlikely that the makers of this show, London Weekend (or any other ITV company), would have known this.

The John Thaw and Denis Waterman appearance in the 1976 Christmas Special was a signal that they were planning to leave the BBC after their contract expired in 1977
