I had the pleasure of knowing Eric in college in Cork. Lovely guy, I remember him giving me friendly advice on how to ask a girl out on a date! I was unaware at the time how musically gifted he was, if I recall, he majored in Economics which I dropped after my first year. We lost contact and I got a terrible shock when I found out online that he had died after pursuing a career in music. So long Eric, RIP.

Thanks to Mike Dawes, who referred to Eric Roche as "the Michael Hedges of Britain" and one of Mike's guitar heroes and clearly one of his strong influences as well

I first heard and saw Eric playing at the Roadmender in Northampton for Phoenix Soundworks 'thanks' day...... He was playing in the lobby and basically being ignored by most there (I was meanwhile captivated by his touch and technique)..... Then he started 'Teen Spirit' and I quote, he said "ah, yer fuckin' listenin' now then.... Classic 😂 I learnt a lot from just watching the maestro. Rip Eric. I look forward to jamming with you soon.

At least 10 years ago I saw this video. It has been like a thunder, a slap in the face. So awesome! Later I found out all the other songs of his discography, really awesome music, sometimes poetry, sometimes rhythm. A complete genius, both for the technique and for the compositions. One of my main reference points. Thanks Eric for showing us the way!

I saw him perform this in Blind O'Reilly's in Guernsey one lunch time. Popped out for a quick bar lunch and had no idea he was going to be there. Then he did this. Brought tears to my eyes as a big Nirvana fan and the sheer beauty of his rendition. Must have been about 15 years ago now. I can't believe where the time has gone. We had a quick chat, nice guy. Blew us all away that day. RIP.

This guy was a genius! ( but then I would say that!) When I was a student at ACM Guildford, he was my theory and applied harmony tutor in my diploma course. He taught me to read music in 2 lectures.(Only simple stuff, ) but he did what nobody else had been able to do! I still miss him greatly! (I was in vocal quadrant, in case you wonder.)

I once played my version of this to him in a lecture at ACM. He made my year by saying “nice guitar playing”!

Eric thinks that his cell phone gave him cancer....this I heard from another Guitarist who was familiar w/ him. The U.K. has a lot of cancer.
@nomeenessuno15636 жыл бұрын
It's patent hyperbole to state the UK had/has a glut of malignancy due to mobile phone use; however, until the impact of microwave radiation was properly understood, this was a perfectly legitimate concern. Sadly, recent research on the topic by respectable cancer charities/academics/laboratories, suggests previous concerns weren't without foundation and that greater consideration should be given. I had the all too brief pleasure of knowing Eric. Whilst I can't dispute whether or not he made such a claim, it sounds very much like a young man surprised by his diagnosis and trying to rationalise it with something that, at the time, appeared to make some sense.
