this is wild for me to watch as someone who's read through Sabrina Online a couple of times. I completely forgot that Eric used to do animations like these (and I believe Amy the squirrel in the comic originated from these animations, though don't take my word for it). Very impressive!!!! It's interesting that the pace of this animation is pretty slow despite the joke being simple. Everything is drawn out more and makes it slightly tough to watch nowadays. I can't tell if that was a limitation of the Amiga 1200 or an artistic choice of Eric (or simply a product of the time). Also wow. Some of those sound effects are goofy as hell, lmao.
@KamyKam5 ай бұрын
It's probably both. Technology was probably not all the way there yet especially for Amiga computers. But also it's an unfortunate consequence of our attention span diminishing. If you really go back and watch older cartoons, especially the 90s, things were much more slower paced and not as fast and in your face like they are now. To me, this wasn't tough to watch at all because sometimes the best stories are ones that arnt trying to take advantage of your dopamine receptors and turn into brainrot.

I tell you dude, something about those sonic esque designs just activates neurons in autists. I say this as an autist that has certain anime styles that do the same neuron activation. I find in general there are throughlines of obsession that involve certain shapes in character designs. I have long thought as well that in many of us there is a kind of wire crossing effect, where cute causes a sexual response. Like IE domestic animals often have been breed to retain features from their child stage which inherently causes an affection in humans similar to that of what we give towards babies. I think what happens in furries, otakus, etc is that the cute response gets lost in transit and simultaneously causes the cute reaction and a sexual attraction. Like look at the facial structure of an anime character. They have exaggerated eyes that a proportionally huge compared to their heads, a similar scale to that of a puppy. As well there is the aspect of readability. Autism inherently makes it harder to understand cues, this we spend extra time learning to read every subtle tell of someone emotions. Anime/cartoon characters make it blatantly obvious how they are feeling. It is comfortable for that reason. I dunno just some musings, grasping at the aether, attempting to understand where these common throughlines of fixation arise from.

It always bothered me when some anthropomorphic characters are fully clothed while others got like a jacket on and nothing else

the animation looks very vibrant and lively for a video from 11 years ago, i'm impressed

Consider too that it is the UPLOAD date to KZbin that's 11 years ago. The animation itself is made in the 90s.

I had actually seen some of these comics strips before because I'm obsessed with skunks.

Looney Tunes?

@@Jackfromshack I don't think those count. There's a difference between anthropomorphic characters, and furry-anthropomorphic, at least in my mind there's a grey area between them which a textbook definition isn't detailed enough to describe.

@@FurryEskimo pretty much all the old cartoons. tom and jerry, looney toons absolutely had cheesecake in them, fleischman Cartoons, and a lot of old games. what about jazz jackrabbit?

Lola Rabbit in Space Jam was definitely furry bait, too. There were definitely earlier instances of Looney Tunes characters intentionally being attractive during their original run, though - a great example is when Bugs turns the witch into an attractive bunny girl, and the infamous Tex Avery lizard stripping scene.

@@FurryEskimo Wth is "furry-anthropomorphic" even mean? Female characters from old cartoons, specially from comedy ones, often were drawned that way (April from TMNT, whole X-Men roaster, Black Cat from Spider-Man, MGM cartoons, Walt Disney etc). This doesn't make them "furry/coomer content". This is just what women was pictured in better times, beautiful, elegant and sexy, which they were before the woke era.

Honestly I'm not a furry, but I gotta say the animation quality is so smooth and very good, even for an early 2000s animation like this one

2:19 This shot looks like those large warning screens in 90s scifi anime before the reactor explodes or the aliens break or the illegal world ending experiment breaks out and kills everyone, especially when it uses that low angle close up of the screen.
