Thirty five years old and it still sounds infinitely better than about 95% of the rubbish spewed out of the radio today.

Back in 1980 I was a radio DJ and walked in for an interview at a competing station and heard the last few bars of this song and its haunted me ever since....finally found it...what a song and a vibe....so crazy that this never made it bigger....Benny Mardones did it on a second time with into the night...

Peaked at a really low No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August of 1980. Great tune, should’ve been a much bigger hit.

Peaked at #92 on the Hot 100. We saw him and The Orchestra the other night. He still has amazing range. Handles all the ELO songs with high parts. They put on a great show.

I own the entire unreleased album that was recorded by Eric Troyer during these same sessions. It's a lost masterpiece of late 70's/Beatles-inspired pop. What a talent.

I finally found this song! Been searching for 35 years! I had no idea who was singing it. Tried KZbin several times over the years, but nothing. And just a couple of days ago, I found an old tape where I recorded the radio DJ when this song played. So I tried Shazam... Nothing, but fortunately the DJ said the name and singer after the somg ended. I Googled it found it then! Thank you for retorrounds posting it!

Ahh, wonderful stuff! And what a voice! For those who don't know, this singer performed the backing vocals (alongside Rory Dodd) on the Jim Steinman classic: "Rock and Roll Dreams Come Through". That falsetto is SO familiar, and unmissable!
@bunnywaggins2 жыл бұрын
Not a falsetto - that's his actual range! 😊
@markbrookman82332 жыл бұрын
@@bunnywaggins ... naaa, the Chorus is definitely in falsetto. You can hear as it switches to his normal voice just at the end. Which is beautiful to listen to. If you want to hear a male voice doing those notes in his actual voice, then check out Ian Gillan and Robert Plant. Their notes are fuller and more robust, which is one way to tell. - I've been singing and performing for 35 years now, and I can always tell the difference. All the best... 🙂

@@markbrookman8233 Eric's natural range is four octaves.
@markbrookman82332 жыл бұрын
@@bunnywaggins ... utilising falsetto, I agree. But in his natural chest voice his range is much lower. For example, Ian Gillan, Robert Plant, Rob Halford and even Axl Rose all have 4 octave voices... reaching those high notes with their chest voice... But Eric, as great a singer as he is, reaches those high notes using "head voice" (I.e. Falsetto).

I would listen to this song in the summer of 1980 while at work at a music warehouse. I remember stuffing guitar strings in a 3 inch by 3 inch white bag in a dingy old warehouse while listening.

The song is great. I missed this gem, back in 1980. But what lacks in this song is the ending. He should have finished the song, by coming back in and singing the chorus over again, like ELO do with their songs. If he would have finished the song like that, I think it would have done better on the charts.
