If science wants Bitcoin to fund exploration, science first needs to get on a Bitcoin Standard. I'm interested in space occupation as a longterm goal, but diversifying humanity across the stars to hedge against the destruction of our planet is not where we are as a civilization. Yes, we should probably reimagine how scientific funding works and enable constant research into these things. But the main goal of Bitcoin is to save this economy-this planet. If we don't first balance monetary power on this planet, throwing Bitcoiners wealth at colonizing other planets isn't going to pay off before something happens to civilization here on this planet. Eric is an interesting guy for sure, but he still doesn't seem to understand that it's still too early to start draining Bitcoiner wealth for philanthropy. Trying to fund projects like this right now would likely entail a flow of wealth from Bitcoin back to fiat. It's not going to be sustainable until spending Bitcoin largely goes to individuals who accept and hold that Bitcoin. TLDR: Bitcoin isn't just a money raising scheme to be used to fund scientific discovery. It needs to first become THE global store of value.

Nick, it takes a really long time to get to another star system. Unless something changes about that, we won't get the opportunity to start exploring planets in other solar systems, even 1,000 years from now (and it's pretty generous to give us that long without something ridiculously bad happening in the meantime). Stuff doesn't change automatically; work is required to solve problems. The fact is, the kinds of technologies that might get us to another star system quickly are unlikely to spontaneously materialize as a result of general progress because the problem of getting to a different star system is so different than any problem we have on Earth. So, we actually need "crazy" people like those guys to do the requisite work.

This talk prompts me towards 2 dos and 2 don'ts. Do halve the time spent on chasing money and waiting for someone to think through and write down new knowledge that tickles our mind. Spend the remaining time following your hunches. Do share with people younger by 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 years your learning experiences, both silly ones and occasionally lucky ones. And also listen to connect rather than to influence or impose. Half the time, don't follow the masses when it comes to taking action on what you see unbefitting. And half the time, don't follow the authorities who are probably thinking 'for the many' with lots of assumptions making an 'ass out of you and me' (ass-u-me). Simply, half of the existential threats are real and gotto be followed as a team-player. The other half are bull-shit that require communication of the unprecedented kind. And you already have 1/2$million if you bother to do the math and remove silly debts.
