Absolutely the best sock tutorial I have watched! where were you years ago before I got frustrated and gave up on socks?! They never fit right. It was always mostly the finer details that no designer ever mentions like avoiding laddering, proper cast on for stretchy ribbing and your method of pick up knit on the edges of the heel is the fastest and best I've seen. The only think you didn't mention was negative ease as mine always end up sloppy and too long. All in all, excellent and thank you....I might try again someday.

I *finally* finished my first pair of socks! To those following the pattern and the video, note 2 things - 1. the cuff on the pattern says 1x1 rib, while the video shoes a 2x2 rib. And 2. The video shows ending the sock on many stitches (making a more square toe) while the written pattern ends in decreasing to 12 stitches for all sizes, creating a cute rounded toe. The written pattern provides a sock that looks a lot prettier and polished in my opinion. Just keep this is mind while keeping up with the video. I’m a complete beginner and these are first socks I’ve ever completed, and I’m over the moon. My goal in learning to knit was solely so I could knit socks. I figure I could just crochet everything else 😅 Thank you, Erica, for the detailed tutorial! ❤ (I used long circular needles for this, as they’re the only needles I’m comfortable with… but on the toe of my second sock I used DPNs and became a lot more comfortable with them during the process ☺️)

Wonderful video.I have been knitting socks for many years now, and I always used patons classic wool, which is 100% wool.The socks I made over 10 years ago are still intact, without holes.Just recently I discovered socks yarn (patons kroy sock yarn and joann brand k&c) and bought quite a few skeins to try them out.The yarn is so darn thin that I need the adult size pattern for my tiny kids' feet.I only bought them because of their color patterns.Not sure how long will they last, as my 100% wool ones are still going strong.

Would you work the heel by knitting needle 3 onto needle 1 if you weren't changing color? Or do you have a separate video on knitting the heal without color change?
@erica_arndt4 ай бұрын
Hi, I don't have a video for that, but instead of cutting your yarn, you would just knit to the end of the heel needle, then knit as you pick up the stitches along the side of the heel flap, knit across the top of your foot, then knit/pickup each side heel stitch, then knit back to the center of the heel. From there you can follow the gusset instructions.

Hi Erica, I cast on 36 stitches instead of 40 to reduce the size of the sock . Now I am ready to do the heel turn using 18 stiches on my needle instead of 20 from the original instructions. How do I modify this section , i.e., for Row 1 (RS) SL 1 purlwise, do I Knit 8 instead of K10 and then follow the pattern as is or does this section have to be modified further. Can you please advise as I have come to a standstill. Much appreciated.
@erica_arndt Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes, that will work, K8 instead of 10 then do the heel turn the same, you just won't have as many turns as I do in the video. Hope that makes sense!

Hello, I just am just a bit confused... is it normal that for the cuff, at min 28:27 in the video, when transferring my stitches from needle one on to needle three, that my stockinette row count is thrown off? I am at 10 rows of stockinette on all three needles, but naturally, knitting stitches on needle 1 to transfer them onto needle 3 means that the stitches initially on needle one end up being 11 rows of stockinette and don't match up with the 10 rows of stockinette everywhere else... does this get corrected?
@helenburns5844 Жыл бұрын
I made these socks, casting on 40 stitches. They are way too big for my Mum who has narrow feet. Do I simply cast on less stitches and follow the pattern as per normal.
@erica_arndt Жыл бұрын
Yes, you for this pattern you can cast on less stitches or you can go down a needle size as well to alter the size.
