I once was just like you and I still don't plan on branching out too much, 3 Sabenza's, 1 Benchmade, 160 some Spyder's, 3 Microtech's, 2 Quiet Carry's, a shit load of Boker's, these are my main loves. I have a WE Subjugator (WE has their shit together and makes BadAss blades (you should try them), also have a Reate Gravity Knife (one amazing piece), just picked up a Demko AD 20.5 in 3V (also something you should try). There's some amazing pieces out there, you do excellent reviews and I'd love to see you review some of the quality blades that are out there, it's an awesome feeling finding a gem that's different from anything else out there. The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is the king of my collection. Thing saved my ass when a hike went bad. That knife is actually the reason I test blades the way I do. I had to baton it to make a crutch and brace when I blew out my knee so now I test every folder that way because a lot of hikers/backpackers refuse to carry a multitool, a fixed blade, etc. My injury came from just hiking in to scout a fishing spot and thinking I wouldn’t need my full kit because I was going less than 5 miles round trip. Thank god I knew how to use what I had on me which was just the PM2. Now I carry my full gear even for the shortest of hikes. I do enjoy testing a bunch of different stuff but the folding blades you will constantly see in my pocket to back up whatever I happen to be testing are the PM2, my Medford 187DP, or my ZT 0223. For fixed blades I always have my trusted Cold Steel SRK, Gerber Strongarm, or Diablo prototype (my design) backing up whatever fixed blade is in the bootcamp. Plus I always have a Swiss Army knife and a good multitool on me and another pair in my backpack

Spyderco has always been a pioneer in the knife industry since they started making knives. They pioneered one handed opening folders and pocket clips for folders. They were the first company to do so. And they are constantly experimenting and innovating with newer steels and locking mechanisms. Spyderco is without question the most progressive knife manufacturer in the US and probably the world.

My only experience with sending a knife in for warranty work is with Kershaw and it took quite a while to get the knife back but besides that it was smooth. I sent in an M4 Blur that a bought 2nd hand(Kershaw knew it was), because the pivot was a bit wonky when i got it and I finished fucking it up🤣🤣. Thanks for the info Erica 🤙🍻

I am currently at the stage of doing away with all of my cheaper knives exception being gifts and sentimental ones. My top picks so far have been Spyderco and Benchmade but I have kept some Artisan cutlery, WE knives, and ZT/Kershaw. D2 is one of the only budget steels I have kept in my collection (again besides the exceptions) in any of locking folders. My slipjoints I actually kind of want a softer steel because they do the majority of my simple cutting task so sharpening them or stroping is quick and easy. Plus the slips are my true pocket pretties.

You can't argue with the fact that these companies do it right. Their customer service is good, too. Should you break it, you can send it to them and they will fix it. I have a few higher end customs from well known makers, and they sit in a safe most of the time. Def thinking about liquidating and focusing on what I carry. Only issue with with Benchmade is that when something is discontinued, and once parts are depleted, you're shit out of luck. You don't run into that problem with CRK or Emerson. There is once person who does warranty work at CRK. That person can fix a knife or reblade one without issue. Emerson knives can replace stuff w/o issue too. Hinderer on the other hand will not replace your blade if it's damaged or worn out. He makes you buy a new knife. Not sure why this is.

The Infidel looks like it was run over by a semi and the switch blade has some kind of coating that has mostly worn off. I sent Benchmade a email and they said it would probably be about a year before they could even get back to me. I wasn't trying to do it on a warranty either. They were found in a junk car that was hours away from being crushed about 5 years ago.

I’m very cool with your decisions, I’m probably just as rigid, but in different ways. Put me in the Benchmade/Spyderco camp as well. I don’t do linerlocks or framelocks, period. I don’t like risking my right thumb everytime I use one. That’s not even counting having seen a liner lock fail, or the hassle of unfucking a framelock that you gripped too tight. One added benefit of that is, I have no desire for the so called “high end” or customs since they all seem to use those locks. I am able to avoid ZT due to their locks and crappy heat treat, I’ve only ever bought one and I got rid of it. They try to pass themselves off as hard use, but they just aren’t. Any knife on ball bearings, just isn’t hard use as dirt and debris will enter the bearings and fuck it up. I do have a few Kershaws, mostly automatics, but also one shitty Hinderer collaboration that is low performance and weighs a metric fuckton. I avoid all the Chinesium D2 8cr13MoV BS knives. They are meant people to carry but rarely use the knife. I haven’t always, but have on rare occasions, and nearly always regret it.
