I think MKC is trying to advertise their edges as being “toothy”. Instead with poor execution they are sending out edges with a burr. You’ve demonstrated before that certain steels perform better with toothy edges. I just wonder if they are using some truth as excuse? As for the Delica I’m wondering if Seki or Spyderco has altered their heat treat protocol since 2 years ago when you had their Cruwear. Maybe the issue with the Cruwear then has made them better able to do PD1 micro melt?
@ericasedc49 минут бұрын
Maybe!!! I am excited to see how the testing continues. 🎉
@Passively-Prepared55 минут бұрын
Obviously supply of MKC knives is low, but I’m 100% sure the one I had came de-burred. You’ve obviously had the opportunity to test many spydies and BMs… wondering if you happened to get a lemon with this MKC? I know it’s very unpractical to ask you to test multiple MKC’s, but I’m not sure 1 test subject is enough to condemn them to they don’t de-burr. I’m familiar with the video of Josh smith sharpening and quasi saying to leave a “little burr” on. The way I interpreted it was he was explaining things as simple as possible to mainly non-knife experts. I believe he was trying to make sure people don’t over do it and lose the toothy edge. They also have a lifetime warranty and sharpening program. Be interested to see how it comes back if you send it in telling them you believe you received a non de-burred knife. Also I know most spyderco’s aren’t $300 but they are $200, and benchmade’s are typically $200 easy and many are in the $300 range, but we don’t completely obliterate them when we get a not perfect factory edge. We always say “sometimes they come burnt from belt sharpener, and it takes 2-3 sharpening’s to get to good steel, but that’s typical/expected…” I know de-burring is different, but at the end of the day what matters most is if the geometry is good and the heat treat is good. Most people put their own edges on anyway. I hope you eventually sharpen it and give it a couple of uses after that. That’s what I really want to know about.

Kizer as a whole is a great company. They make excellent knifes, generally. I have a feeling that the one that broke in that video (which I did see) was a dud/lemon. It can happen. I'm still very tempted to get one and test batoning it, I'd bet dollars to donuts that it won't break. I've seen many videos of people batoning small kizer knives and they had no issues. However, the part where you claim they don't have the capability to heat treat things correctly "over there" is absolutely ridiculous and not grounded in fact.

Ya your right about MKC there doesn't seem to be much talk of them online in the knife community, other than the non knife people they influenced. A bit odd considering they do drops and presumably sell out often if you see whats available on their website. I don't like they often put coatings on their blades, I could understand if they were using a steel very prone to rust, but it's often Magnacut which takes harsh conditions without rust generally. It especially makes no sense in their cheff knife line in my opinion, chefs knives should be non coated. No one needs bits of cerakote in their food.

I’ve found pretty much same, s45 will take a better ultra fine edge than s35 however it does best with a medium grit so it doesn’t glass out, however with the right heat treatment it has potential to do a lot better with a finer edge as long as angle is on lower side. Most imho should stick around 600 to 1200 grit
