Well, he has a couple of things going for him and those should be taken into consideration. He's young, strong and I'm sure has a strong "core". Along with good golf mechanics and athletic body you too would hit like him. I remember being that strong years ago and could hit balls over the fence. Now, at 72 golf has become a very different thing altogether. The reason I watched this video is because it does make sense and especially for seniors like myself it's a good way to get some distance back into my swing but it will not ever look like Eric's excellent swing. Nice swing Eric...your instruction on this concept is excellent. You can bet I will start working on it soon.

I'd like to point out something that may go unnoticed. I say unnoticed, because Eric is very good at this, and as a result you might not even recognize what's happening. And that is just how well Eric speaks. He's fortunate to have a voice that has excellent tone--very natural and engaging--but more than that, there are no hesitations as he speaks, no um/uh, no "I mean," no dreadful habits that can curse public speaking by calling attention to themselves. Eric's speaking is perfect for giving lessons. The listener is able to receive more effectively that which is being said, and that makes all the difference.

I have never followed through correctly in 20+years, that was until today. What a difference it makes to ball striking. Great video again Eric. I plan on using this in the beginning of my warmup, at the range before I play. Six swings from stationary setup. Six swings with hitting the ball, club parallel to the ground. Six swings hitting the ball starting with club parallel to the ground and swinging back to maybe 3/4 and hitting the ball. Plan in place. What I like is learning to transfer your weight to the lead side properly. This will also help in hitting ball first and divot after the ball. So many extra benefits with your drill.

Wow, you're crushing it. Keep up the solid work. I duct taped 5 old clubs together and do his 1 arm drills for upwardly of 5,000 reps per day (35,000 swings per week > 140,000 plus left arm swings a month.) I no longer even need my right arm because the ball goes way too far when I use both. Like tennis, I truly believe the game was meant to be mastered with 1 arm. I'm gonna start using right arm drills but because I'm naturally right handed, I'm gonna duct tape 8 clubs together and start swinging heavier. It's a great forearm, lat and shoulder work out you even hit parts of the traps and glutes which is icing on the cake. My goal is to get to 225,000 swings a month with both 1 armed swings. Thanks

Can’t wait to try this. I used to have a finau-like half swing and hit my PW 160+ and driver 300+ easy but changed to a conventional swing after an injury and my PW went to 120 and driver to 220. After a few practice swings in the yard like this I forgot how short my old swing used to be. So much easier for me to get speed

thanks Eric for the lesson, tip. looking forward to trying this out. Just got back from the range and i saw this,, the very problem i'm having. I know where my problem lies but have not been able to fix it. starting too fast from the top of the swing. I have beautiful practice swings that feel really good, coming from inside and not rushed, but as soon as it's the real swing and i'm focused on the ball.... hurry from the top trying to generate power. I think this might be the ticket to a calmer more controlled down swing! thanks again!

Very nice Eric. This perfectly utilizes out kinetic chain to perform as it should without padding extra time into the swing to allow us (me!) to try to manipulate anything. This also compacts the swing to compress the ball and hit the center of the club face more often. Well done!

Another good one, Eric! I'm a "recovering overswinger." Been struggling with excessive arm runoff at the top; this causes an open cf at impact, off-sync pressure shift and over-dominant upper body. When I'm playing good, I get it right.; when I fumble, I tend to spiral back to my old habits. Your videos are helping me a lot in my journey to a more compact and efficient backswing, and this one will def be part of my practice. Thanks!

Eric, really great drill to change our focus. I tend to get bogged down with starting and staying on plane, and this puts too much emphasis on the early swing at the expense of athletic motion and speed. Is there a pre-swing drill or move that could be used while playing to keep this move fresh in our minds right before hitting shots on the course?

Great video. It was also praised and used with full credit to you by the Average Golfer, another favorite of mine. Will be working on this at the PGA Superstore practice bay this weekend. BTW, you give a perfect illustration of the brain causing you to make a swing move different or greater than what you think you are doing. At minute 4:32, where you say you will allow just a little bit more of a backswing than taking the shaft back only to parallel with the ground, you did begin with the shaft parallel, but in fact as can be seen at 4:35 you actually took a full backswing with your hands above the level of your ears. Maybe not max full, but pretty close to it. So you thought, or your brain thought, you were lifting your arms just a few inches but it was actually about two feet. Andy, the Average Golfer, stressed the point you make both at minute 1:15 to 1:59 and again at the end of this lesson, that most of us focus on trying to generate greater speed on the downswing, with the result that our brain overdoes it, focuses too much on that segment of the swing, on hitting the ball, and the subsequent segment from contact to follow-through becomes an afterthought and we actually lose speed. In contrast, if we focus on generating speed from the point of contact into a full follow through, as your no backswing drill does, our brain will automatically produce good speed on the downswing. You could say we have to fool the brain into doing the right thing.

WOW ! it works immediately for irons but was a mess with my Driver and Wood :-/ Any Tip ?

I would stick to this with an iron....specifically practicing with something like a 9,8,7 iron. I wouldn't practice with driver with this BUT you CAN use the same FEELS and see if that helps

Just watched this and went to the range to practice… worked well. I know this is an issue for me so this drill was perfect timing. I feel I was getting additional 15 yards with my wedges.

Great video. Your left knee does an external rotation which helps get your weight left. Works for me. Thanks

I am 83 years old and I am having a hard time rotating through the swing. I like the concept you showed. Are there any modifications you would suggest for a senior golfer?

Not much Thomas---same procedure if you're looking for more speed through the ball!

I was reviewing my swing with an golf exercise coach and he said I had a fake follow through. Man I did not like it. Then you say the same thing and realize I stop power after contact and conclude with my “fake finish “. I practiced this on your video and will make this part of practice routine. Thank you.

Used the static start drill as pre-shot routine today -> 1-2 clubs more distance and straighter shots. Somehow it syncs everything and is the missing piece for the front load drill. Don't really understand why but it's magic!

Great to hear of the gains!

nice one and I'll use that drill for any iron shot. Bonus is it should also keep you leaning forward and simplifying your swing tempo.
