Hey guys, we hope you like the video as much as we do! As many of you were wondering if stacking the volumes results in screwing into the same holes over and over again. As a consequence the wood would be gone after a few times doing so and there would be serious troubles with fixing the volumes properly. To solve this issue we place the screwing holes differently for every volume and even differently on the same or mirrored surfaces. As a result we can ensure that only, if you place the same volume in the exact same position on the same stack you placed it before, only in this specific case you will hit the same holes with a great chance. With 8000 possibilities (looking at the orientation of each volume and the different shapes) we hope to have delivered you exciting products allowing you to realise many of your ideas on the climbing wall. Cheers Leon, Julius & Johannes 🍌🥰

What if all volumes have two set of holes, one set for placing on the wall like usual, another set has preinstalled screw holes and all holes align perfectly between volumes, they use a special kind of screw that can link them up, so no need to drill anything and all the holes are reusable. Of course that will increase setters' workload.
@paulzauner68962 жыл бұрын
genius haha
@TheQuicksilver1152 жыл бұрын
@@HajimeChan that would work, similar idea to how just normal bolt holes on the wall work, but 2 issues jump out at me: 1 the biggest downside is definitely increased cost, both labor and parts. I have to assume holds of this size are already a big investment and having to install these on every hold would have to drastically increase production costs. 2 as you mentioned you'd have to use a standardized screw, which it is probably possible to use the already standard bolts for normal wall things, but those are bulky and would require even more labor and material to get them to be compatible with all of the angles. You are correct though, that is absolutely the longest-lived solution and was definitely my first thought too. But they engineered a really genius, elegant, low-cost, and still incredibly effective long-term solution so it just doesn't make sense to go through all that extra effort.

I just had a thought that makes me a bit concerned about the durability of the volumes: Everythime you make a stack, regardless how you put them together, the wood screws go in the same place in the volume below. Won't these specific spots wear out at some point? As in, the 10th or 15th time you put up a route with them, will there just be holes in the volumes where the screws would go? Keep in mind I'm not a route setter so I might be completely off here :)
@hetistijmen2 жыл бұрын
Yeah this will happen, but you can fix wood much better than you can pu or pe. Volumes wear all the time, same with holds and even the wall itself eventually. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the screwholes are all a little offset. That way by swapping and turning the holes move a little bit, most of the time.
@jobro2962 жыл бұрын
Also, it looked to me like the screwholes are slightly different on each face, so maybe they don't line up

@@bananavolumes4653 Cool! I figured combinations would increase exponentially but 8000 variations is a lot. Can't wait until they're in a place where I can climb on them. Would you guys recommend fixing volumes with the toothpick trick? I've used it on furniture with lots of success but I don't reset enough to wear out my own volumes so I haven't been able to try it for myself.

How do the screws work on these holds? (on holds in general I guess) there are no holes in the top of the volumes, right? do you just screw right through the wood when you stack them?
@macdewee2 жыл бұрын
Nice volumes, but I'm curious about one thing. While stacking the volumes, screws are going into the same place over and over again, so after multiple (few?) boulders, holes after screws will make it impossible to stack another volume. My question is how many time you can stack them before it happens? The question is more likely for the banana volumes team, but maybe someone will be able to extend my knowledge :)
@macdewee2 жыл бұрын
Not sure about that, but as fair as I can see, screw holes are in different distance from the corners, what somehow mitigates my concerns

Cool vid, very nice problem and holds… isn’t there a slight design fault with those holds though? as each level can be stacked and rotated if they screw together in the same place every time, you’re not going to be able to set/stack to many times until the screws don’t bite! Surely they would be better and last longer if they bolted to each other!!! Anyways loving the work x
