Erickson Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane/Aircrane Startup & Taxi at YYJ

One of Erickson Incorporated's enormous S-64 Skycranes showed up in the fall last year. I was happy to see it start up even if it was only taxiing about 100 metres. Also, I apologize for the audio quality, which is due to the ear splitting racket from those exposed engines!

Didn't the Army hoist a shipping container full of troops under one of those....then let them "jump" ( parachute) from 2,000 feet???? That would have been Ft Bragg, of course. Back in the 70's.

The Army puchased a number of Universal Pods (shipping containers like) which were set up to seat as many as 45 soldiers or 24 litter patients; also could accept vehicles or smaller artillery pieces like the 105mm howitzer. Parachuters could jump from the back end of the POD.
