I was so amazed at the level of fluency Jared has with Tagalog! He knows even the older or the more modern Filipino words and slangs. Respect.
What can you say about his Tagalog?
Please let me know what you think! I'll respond to every single comment :)
Thanks to ‪@Jayyhartmann‬ for the amazing collab, bro.

he doesn't only speak the Tagalog language, he even explains it grammatically which a normal fluent or native Filipino 'sometimes' can't explain

That is common for native speakers not to know the technical aspects of their language. Despite studying it for years in school. They understand grammar through inference majority of the time and are unable to explain what makes the language work. In university, the foreign students understand the English language better than the native speakers. An exchange student from Japan had the highest grade in the English class I was in, when many native English speakers failed their test and struggled to pass. I was one that struggled and could not see my own writing mistakes, much less explain them.

@@alanguages I'm talking about the Tagalog language or Filipino in my comment. I think you're referencing the English language. And Yes, it's the same with them. I even have a couple of British and American friends who cannot even explain what future progressive is and instead hear expletives from them out of frustration.

Been watching Jared for a while. He's from Calgary where I also live. I even suggested to him to go to different grocery stores like Hongkong, T&T and Seafood city where a lot of Pinoys normally would be seen especially weekends and prank them by suddenly speaking in Tagalog. 😛

Tagalog is a language with Level III difficulty requiring more than 900 hours of practice similar to Greek, Hebrew and Russian (Spanish is Level I) for English speakers. If Latin has cases, Tagalog has verb focus system. It is not as difficult as Japanese or Chinese but it is quite a challenging language to learn because of the original 'Austronesian alignment' features that others (i.e. Malay/Indonesian) lost through simplification of grammar (think about how 1st generation Filipino Chinese talk using only words with very few markers or conjugations by relying heavily on word placement in a sentence). A foreigner who is very fluent in Tagalog means he really put his or her heart learning it and it is something truly admirable.

Language evolves. Some words are seldom used or not used anymore, and some are added. Most of those added are actually street/slang words. Kahit ako, yung ibang words na sinabi dito, ay first time ko din narinig. 74 years old na ako kaya alam ko na meron mga words na nauso dati, most of them street words, pero hindi na din ginagamit ngayon.

Tagalog is the language I first spoke as a child, but because my parents didn't know a kid could grow up bilingual, we stopped speaking Tagalog at home once I learned English in kindergarten. I am so envious and a little embarrassed that Jared speaks Tagalog a million times better than I can (my speaking ability is almost zero, but I still understand it). Anyway, great video! I subscribed to Jared's channel!

I was exactly the same as you. I was born in Philippines and only knew how to speak Tagalog until the age of 4. Then I went to kindergarten in Canada and lost my ability to speak Tagalog, but I could always understand it. Then I went back to Philippines when I was 18 for 3 months and tried to only speak Tagalog. It was honestly so easy to learn how to speak because I could already understand it. The first month I was still speaking English mostly. Then the second month I decided I would try to only speak Tagalog. It honestly wasn't even that hard and I had a cousin who would correct my slight grammar mistakes. I would say after 3 months I was a pretty fluent Tagalog speaker. Now I've been learning Spanish for 2 years and I still don't have anywhere near the same fluency I have in Tagalog. It really is easy to learn how to speak if you already understand the language.

Mahusay si Jared. Hanga talaga ako sa kanya. Talo ang mga pilipino na andito nga ay ingles naman ng ingles na para bang ilinahihiya ang sariling lengwahe. 'yung ibang words naman ay hindi naman taal na tagalog kundi mga salitang kolokyal na naimbento na lang ng mga kabataan sa panahon na ito at nadagdag na sa pangkarinawang gamit.
