User LB: Lower Risk-Good Reward User S: Higher Risk for the same reward. If you are slow to read something, or make a mistake with a LB..you give up a few yards..maybe a first down. No biggie..do better the next series of downs. User a S, you mess up, someone is running 60 yards open.

I've been playing Madden since '92...and have done pretty well based off of picking up on tendencies, and situational defenses. With this video, you have elevated my game this year. I will no longer use a lineman, but use a an LB 80% of the time. It makes so much sense. And takes a load of stress off of me from picking the the best defense every down. Thank you!

In real football, they teach you to watch the guards. The risk is play action but you can start to read when your opponent wants to PA.

I always play back for a second and hit the biggest gap or get ahead of the runner . Or depending on how u set up your line you can get a free running space to hit the RB or sack the QB it doesn’t always work but when it does it’s magical also you should look up micro blitzing that helps out sometimes .

Great tutorial. With the broken ballhawk button (Y, triangle)in M18 I find myself trying things I never thought to do in previous titles ...they don't work. This stuff your talking about is golden. But, damnit, I wish they'd fix that intercept button!

Im surprised at the amount of people that dont know how to user LBs. You literally just strafe and take away passing lanes. I think its self explanatory if you have any kind if madden knowledge/skill, but ive been a hardcore madden player ever since madden 04 so that could be why. And for those asking how he reads the play, you just strafe and look for the routes coming in your area, it gets pretty easy once you know what most people like to do out of certain formations. and I know every play so maybe thats why. and im not hating im just surprised, but im glad hes helped yall. being able to User the LB is the key to playing great defense

Especially online, User LB is the way to go because most people are running drag/shallow cross routes to get a quick 5yds. By controlling the LB’s you can usually take away the underneath routes, forcing your opponent to make risky throws.

Eric, I started actually playing madden like February this year. Your tips got me started so much better this year and I’ve gotten to a 12 game win streak!!! I only lost it bc Nelson Agholor dropped a game winning ball because as he was falling he came back up and the corner made an animation that knocked out the ball☹️. Agility I feel is important too. If your dudes fast, but not agile. You can’t break on those baited user lurks. But that’s personal preference

One thing I’ve learned usering MLBs is agility matters a bit more to me than height and speed.The player with a higher agility rating can turn quicker,it’s especially helpful if you’re sloppy with the sticks.

This video is awesome, but for anyone who gets discouraged, it really just takes practice. This is my first madden so I had to learn how to do it just form watching, it took me about a month to get good. Keep in mind I’m now level 60 with a maxed out shakier with hot hands and I get picks left and right now.

I feel like I can follow routes and read plays easy enough, but when the ball comes my way and I’m in great position to intercept it I feel like I always miss it or it goes right through me, and like I said I can make the reads necessary and I’ll be right next to the receiver but I feel like I always lose out. Thank you for tips. I think I need to strafe more inside. I'm often in perfect position but the ball whizzes right by his head with no deflection or interception even when I'm hitting triangle right away. Strafing seems to help quite a bit on the short interior throws.

Good Vid.. I've had the ball literally smack my user in the helmet with no animation.. There's so many balls thrown that should be user picks but no animation.. Really frustrating at times.. I can shadow receivers really good but suck at making the plays. My opponents literally throw at the receiver I'm covering even though he's obviously well covered but they throw the ball and I can't do anything.

Try making an offline franchise player that plays free safety,.. it gives you the mix of covering the run, covering zone, and man to man against the fastest WRs/RBs in the NFL...I average 12 allowed ppg online this year

Sometimes cover 2 is hard to run because the underneath is open if someone’ goes deep across the middle
