easy to fix a friction peg. Replace the fiber washer. If it is totally missing, you can make one out of card stock. Works a charm.

In the future, try taking the tuner button off, then use a 10mm socket (or one close) to put over the button shaft and then hammer it in by hitting the socket.

Good idea because that Tuning Knob is delicate.

Glad I found this video. I've got a similar 1960's Harmony banjo with this exact problem. 5th string peg slips all the time. Time to upgrade.

Good job. A satisfied customer no doubt. Loved the performance critique at the end of the brief test drive. Quite amusing. Your banjo chops will not pay the rent, but satisfied customers will!

Thanks! My harmony reso tone needs this. Keep on keepin' on.

Traditions have changed over the years, Geared Tuners are super accurate plus you can use a string winder to crank them for faster string changes.

Great info. That's the exact same problem I have and that's exactly what I was going to do... just waiting for my peg to arrive. Thanks!!!!

Eric Schaefer It's just like the Machine Head tuners on a Guitar since both instruments use steel strings. The Guitar style Machine Heads can literally handle alot of tension.

A Daddario Pro String winder would've helped w/ stringing up

This was excellent. I've been cursing this peg for years. Do you have any advice on how NOT to crack the neck while tapping it in? Duh! Sorry watched it a second time and paid more attention. Thanks!

I noticed that you have a slight tilt backward, toward the peghead on the tuner. Is that on purpose?

Eric, take the plastic knob off then screw the bolt back in then lay a padded block on the side of the neck then pull it out with a claw hammer or nail removal lever (not frailing a real claw hammer) Works a treat young fella.

Do you pitch the new tuner slightly forward?

Ive got one of these harmony banjos that was given to me. its missing everything but the tuners and tail piece. So apparently it needs to be reamed for one of these geared 5th tuners, but which one is the closest fit?
@RockStarOscarStern6343 жыл бұрын
Geared tuners are certainly a huge upgrade for Banjos
@tomrowe64322 жыл бұрын
Can I ask how you got the reamer ground down?

Is it possible to put banjo patenary pegs on a banjo that comes with guitar tuners on it?

Nah the Guitar Style Tuners look more updated

Nah, the Guitar Style Tuners allow you to get away w/ a Guitar String Winder & Cutter. They're more accurate.

Bought mine. Way oversize for my old wreck of a banjo, No drill size indicated with the part, so I took a guess and pretty much ruined the instrument as the hole is way oversize now. Tring to repair with silicon plumbers tape and gasket goo. Doesn't look like it's going to hold. Moral of the story: If your replacement is bigger than the hole just barely scrape it out.

@UCwlODDrWKjMZQ9njyfy2cow Geared tuners are far more superior than Friction Pegs because they make the instrument look like it's going to hold tune better.

Hits it straight on the tuner button screw. One born every minute. If you dont know how to do it... Dont do it !
