It's such a shame this song gets struck off so much, as it's genuinely a really lovely song when you look at the lyrics. I'm British and we've got some seriously dodgy songs that people still chant at rugby and football games, but no one bats and eye to them. @@arslongavitabrevis5136 I was talking about the tone of this particular version. The tone, melody and signing is definitely militaristic. I know the text itself is about a girl called Erika and a flower that Germans call Erika and that it's pure and innnocent. I've known the song for 10+ years.

Meine Oma was born 1939. She faintly remembers at the agw of 3 of troops marching down the street singing this. The only other memory she has of the war is of the bombing runs.

The average German could expect dismissal by the oligarchic and elitist Empire and rampant civil war and degeneracy in Weimar, but not in Hitler's Reich. Rommel and Hitler were obviously ignored by the Empire's army and Hirschfeld is a great example of Weimar social conditions. The Prora, Wilhelm Gustloff, and Volkswagen would've never existed or been planned to be accessible by average Germans if not for Adolf Hitler, National Socialism, and the Reich. Considering the jews refused assisted deportation to what would become israel and needed to be forced into camps, they would probably agree with me. Stubbornly digging in your heels in a supposedly terrible place and refusing the supposedly evil guy's help in getting you out doesn't exactly scream you're oppressed. I would rather me and my neighbor speak German than your neighbor speak arabic or turkroach. Seen what happened in Magdeburg recently? God Bless and Merry Christmas.

It's kinda cute how German soldier songs revolved around love. It's ironic how the more romantic cultures singe about victory and conquest, whereas the Germanic sing about women. It kinda makes sense if you think about the history.

I love this record version of Erika. When I was with one of my friends, he asked me "Oh yea, you're German, right?" I respond with "Yea, what about it?" He then proceeded to play this version of Erika from his phone and ask me "Then you should know this song." I started laughing as to how untimed and perfectly humorous the event was. Ich muss sagen, bei Liedern, die so tief mitten in der Seuche des dritten Reiches entstanden sind und damit ab Veröffentlichung von der Propaganda missbraucht wurden, halte ich mich zurück. In der Zeit galt Erika schließlich als "arischer" Name, während die jüdischen verboten wurden. Als altes Liedergut würde ich Propagandalieder aus der NS Zeit nicht betrachten, wohingegen, damit tut man doch den viel älteren Liedern unrecht? Aber: belehrt mich gerne eines Besseren

Ich sehe es so. Die Tradition Soldatenlieder über Blumen, Heimat und Frauen zu schreiben, gibt es bei uns seit Jahrhunderten. Diese wären also auch im 2. Weltkrieg unter jeder Ideologie/ Regierung entstanden und sind daher die völlig normale Fortführung der deutschen Liederkultur. Und für die Propaganda haben die Nazis auch Mozart, Beethoven oder Wagner missbraucht. Nur weil sie das taten, macht es die Lieder und Kultur nicht automatisch böse. Das mit dem arischen und jüdischen Namen klingt jedoch nach Spekulation, hast du das handfest irgendwo gelesen? Es gibt dutzende Soldatenlieder von Frauen, die sogar jüdische Namen haben z.B. Kleine Elisabeth - schöne Elisabeth!, ebenfalls von Herms Niel. Elisabeth ist ein jüdischer Name: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKa8gJmCnrhsgas Ich sehe diese durchaus aus alte Lieder, welche auf Volksfesten und in der Bundeswehr auch nach dem Krieg weitergespielt wurden.

Meine Oma hieß Erika, und Erika ist in Japan auch ein recht beliebter Name. Man kann ihn gut mit den Hirigana und den Katakana schreiben kann「エリカ」oder 「えりか」。

Yes YT gives me also 'hatespeech' too and stopped me from posting for 2 days for my opinion/comments. They were not even extreme/hateful or targeting at all. I have a feeling we are all being watched because they want Germany ground into the dust and long past history while todays Germans are watered down. Why is it so wrong to be proud of my heritage and where I lived? Even in Germany its very supressed. Makes one wonder.

@@Hindoshahr Because since Germany is still a occupied country under the G.A.E (Grand American Empire), any song that may instil his spirit with the memories of a time he was not a slave and had a country that was unrepented, proud and had self respect, he may start to think that there may be within him an alternative that will make him throw off his chackles and reject the current order of things. This of course can not be allowed to happen.
